mmm chinese food....

rickair7777 06-13-2007 07:17 AM

So about $87,000/year total, most of which would be exempt from US income tax. They're paying more than I had expected...

2Lazy 06-13-2007 07:19 AM

If you were a single CRJ capt, I don't think that it would be that bad. the whole 2 year contract thing would be a bigger downfall though.

JoeyMeatballs 06-13-2007 07:37 AM

I was thinking the same thing...................much better then what we have here in the sates.......................

rickair7777 06-13-2007 08:07 AM

They're still going to have trouble getting folks. Single adventure-seekers maybe, but if you have a spouse, what is she/he going to do in china?

johnso29 06-13-2007 08:20 AM

I don't think I would trust any contract written by someone working with J.O. I bet you see maybe a fourth of whats promised in this contract. Plus, with a whopping 9 days off a month you can really make it back to the States to visit. You could probably have a better life working in a rice field....at least you could get some fresh air.

flynavyj 06-13-2007 09:04 AM

yep, the "adventure" nature of it appeals to me, i was thinking what my fiance' would do in china though. lol...she's a teacher, wonder if she could teach english and math combined...But yeh, it could be fun, but what's up w/ 9 days off a month, and it's written like that's something to be proud of, lol.

spitfire1500 06-13-2007 09:11 AM

Exactly what I was thinking in regard to the contract. I would definitely consult an employment contract Attorney before signing anything. In fact, I would ask for a copy after passing the interview and before accepting if anyone is truely looking.

Don't forget the quality maintenance MESA planes will be receiving in China. Yikes.

flynavyj 06-13-2007 02:55 PM

yeh, might be raining canadairs over there.

Ha ha, what will he do next?! I think working for Cathay or Emirates would be a better deal, at least safer deal anyway.

Bri85 06-13-2007 04:06 PM

They are doing that cause they are expecting the influx of hundreds of thousand of passengers next year for the olympics. I hear alot of Brazilian pilots are jumping in since the market down there has gone sour over the years.

saab2000 06-13-2007 04:17 PM

I would also be very curious about regulations in China. Work rules, equivalant 'FARs', maintainance regs, etc.

Ftrooppilot 06-13-2007 05:06 PM

FYI - I have a son who worked for EDS and lived in China for three years. Although an IT manager, he has a CMEL and basic understanding of the airline industry (brother is a Regional pilot). Have sent him a copy of the offer and asked for comments on QOL, income, etc. WIll pass on any comments I get.

FROM Person who lived there three years.

A single person would have a minimally acceptable QOL (living with or near other Americans or Europeans) at about $80,000 per year. Anything less and you will be forced to live "on the economy."

That's amazing...sounded like a lot...LoL

Thanks for clarification! We should have known anyway, as we're all familiar with MAG and JO ops here state-side haha.

ImperialxRat 06-17-2007 06:55 PM

Would be a fun adventure....but I would rather live in poverty in the US, rather than live in poverty in China.

Your wife could teach Engrish, the chinese version of English.

HoursHore 06-20-2007 06:30 AM

You'll need that health insurance for the Lung cancer you'll get breathing Bejing air. You can't even see the ground on a sunny day at 5000 feet. They all wear those hospital masks for a reason.

STILL GROUNDED 06-20-2007 06:58 AM

Let us not forget who is behind this operation. Been there done that wouldn't touch with a 30 foot pole. You can expect to be beaten until you void your contract that way he will not have to pay the completion bonus.

This J.O. probrably won't even hire current Mesa employees, he can't spare them!

filejw 06-20-2007 07:08 AM

Guys to live at a reasonable standard that contract should be at least 10000 a mo.

SharkyBN584 06-20-2007 07:12 AM

So if captain pay is at the poverty line...I'm sure FO pay is going to be fantastic. How do they plan on filling the right seat? Chinese FO's with English Captains? That sounds like a cockpit communication dream...

TURN THE F*$&ING HEAT OFF! I SAID OFF! O-F-F!!!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the FO's will be chinese...also the observer. You will have a "Political Officer/Observer" in the JS for every flight. He will shoot you in the back of the head in case you attempt to defect to the west

That's not enough money to fly an airliner AND play CFI for for an FO who's english is probably horrible at best.

Do you realize what you've said. You do know that Mesa is involved with this deal? None of the poor Mesa pilots live at a reasonable standard.

ghilis101 06-20-2007 09:04 AM

well if its a raw deal then dont do it. its as simple as that. the people who decide to go will have to deal with the consequences. and some people will end up liking it for some strange reason. its like anything else thats going on in the industry. someone is gonna stand up and do it.

btw chinese food in china is not the same as chinese food here in the states. i threw up a little in my mouth the first time i saw that disguisting crap. have fun out there whoever decides to go :)
