Pilots and Tattoos

Hello everyone,
I am prepearing to fly for the airlines, but I have a question that nobody I know could answer to. Do airlines have policies regarding tattoos? More specifically visible tattoos. I have a tattoo on the inside of my forearm, about 4 inches, and I am debating on keeping it or having it removed.
Thank you for your help
Baron

I definitely wouldn't go to the interview with it showing. As far as policies, I think you will have to wear a long sleeve shirt for the rest of your career. I don't think they will let you have it be visible.

I saw a guy just the other day with the cheesiest most horrid tattoo on his fore arm, he didn't have it covered up, looks tacky please cover it up your an Airline Pilot, not a member of Sammy's Slammin Saloon. I have no problem with tattoos just looks very white trashy when in a "professional environment" I believe some airlines have policies I am not sure..........

PS The guy I am referring to was an Express CA and he was wearing a short sleeved shirt..............

I can't think of any airline that will hire you with a visible tat at the interview, and almost all of them would have policies against visible tats while in uniform.

Long sleeves are not always an option, so if you're going to be an aviation professional you should probably remove anything that's even a little visible while wearing long pants and a short sleeve pilot shirt.

I agree with all of you. Tattoos in a professional enviroment are not quiet...professional. I will have it removed.
Thank you

That's crazy talk. Don't bother getting it removed. It's costly and painful. You know how many prior military guys are airline people now? You'll be wearing a suit at the interview. You'll be wearing your jacket when in the terminal. The only time your forearm will be visible is sitting in the cockpit, and then who cares? I would certainly not disqualify someone based on a tattoo. I've heard they even hire women to fly! ohhhhh snap!

I too have a visable tat and while im in uniform I DO cover it over with a makeup called DERMABLEND (you can buy it at any Dept. store like Macys, Dillards etc.). This coverup will run you $30-40 BUT it will last you 5-6 months depending on how often you use it. I was working for a Frac. for a few years now with a Major and people TRULY dont give a rats ass about it BUT I do feel alot better with it covered over. If you have any oher questions feel free to drop me a line. Good Luck..>!!

I would say you probably shouldn't get any face/neck tattoos. That may be hard to cover up.

Comair buddy of mine had a visible USMC tat. Wore short sleeves all during G/School no one cared. Now he's drinking the Jet Blue kool-aid. Cover it up during the interview.
