Bad News for Mesa

Well this may be the significant turning point that many mesa watchers have been hoping for....

SKW pilots today got offered 150% pay to pick up extra trips to cover UAX flying which is being "dropped by another United Express Carrier" Hmmm....wonder who that could be.

Also I understand that the mesa UAX bids info is extremely overdue...I think bidding has started WITHOUT the UAX pilots.

I hope AWAC is able to re-place some aircraft into the United system. That would be great!

The shortage is beginning to have an impact on daily ops everywhere, not only Mesa.

Jr Manning at SKW isn't mandatory. We're able to negotiate (like positive spacing) and adjust the trip to fit our lives (only taking choice legs). Also SKW has placed all the flying in Open Time and not in to PBS so that we can get paid 150% instead of straight pay. That was a great move on Mgmnt side. SUX to be at Mesa!

I highly doubt it since AWAC owns the competition. However if Mesa is in fact loosing it it could mean more all the way around. I really hope Mesa is the sinking ship everybody is proclaiming.

so if theres nobody to cover a trip they cancel it?

ToiletDuck 06-15-2007 06:02 PM

AWAC coming in would be a dream come true. Nothing like seeing one of the good guys pull the slack for one of the bad guys.

saab2000 06-15-2007 06:02 PM

Junior manning isn't mandatory at AWAC either but they are heavy handed and dirty in their tactics to do it. But if you are "unavailable" then you are UNAVAILABLE. But a junior man is at 150% pay (not bad, especially since AWAC pays pretty well...) and if they are really short they will work with people in terms of positive space and other days off, etc. I have heard both good and bad.

Yeah, it sux to be at Mesa at the moment.

BTW, AWAC does not own the competition really. Sort of only. AWAC owns a significant portion of US Airways, but they are all Star Alliance and sometimes work together.

That’s what reserves are for. In the past I’ve been able to negotiate double time (only once), hotel and positive spacing; but only when they're really hurting and for them it's better than cancelling flying. They don’t like to negotiate but when they’re in a pinch they will. I always use the line, “let me call you in your day off and try to send you cross country for BS pay.”

ghilis101 06-15-2007 06:16 PM

yes but theres plenty of cases where there just arent enough reserves, hence the junior manning

That's why I got double time, hotel and positive spacing.

ghilis101 06-15-2007 06:26 PM

so youre volunteering yourself to save the company from junior manning. but if it came down to no volunteers and no reserves, they would have to junior man, correct?

I see your point and that's when it SUX to be Jr.

ghilis101 06-15-2007 06:31 PM

the reason i say this is it would be a very real possibility this summer, at all regionals, and even at United...

LOW FUEL 06-16-2007 11:09 AM

XJET is to fly 25 145's out of IAD.... You heard it here first, TUE it will be official....:D

JoeyMeatballs 06-16-2007 11:58 AM

We are super short-staffed many flights have been canceled everywhere (all airlines) due to no crews...............Hopefully mainline will take some of their flying back realizing some of their regional partners just cant handle the amount of flying given to them, what scares me is when all of these guys that came on with 300hrs 20 multi are up for UPGRADE:eek:

yeah but unless they meet you for a flight, just dont answer your phone, a lot of times when they try and Junior me people they really cant use them for much, because they most likely are close to 30/7 or 8/24 happened to me many times.........

It's only possible at company's where the contract allows it... if there isn't a junior manning provision in the contract, the pilots can say "go to hell" and the flights get cancelled. (And then maybe staffing levels get adjusted...)

ACA/Independence didn't have junior manning. The result was that many crewmembers worked out deals to get trips covered. (Drop trip later with pay, pay premiums, DTR approval, etc). My philosophy was that I was more than happy to help out- as long as it wasn't taken for granted and I got something in return.

Starting when? And where are the 145s coming from?

If XJET starts expanding it's fleet and then starts hiring a lot more pilots to fly those new planes how long would it take for them to slow hiring back down?

The real question should be where are the 170/190s coming from ;)

 too circumstantial my friend

ExperimentalAB 06-16-2007 03:56 PM

SAAB...lets just say you get those 170's ;-) Do you really think XJet will give ya'll the REAL pay-raise you deserve? Or will they be like SKW and ASA, giving a couple buck premium??

Remember, you guys still have to be somewhat competitve too!

haha I bet our management would try to give us a premium, but I don't think our pilot group would go for it...............but you never know. I think it will take more airlines getting 170's to see the pay go up, thats how it works, one airline tries to out due the other when it comes to pay, but if only a few airlines have them (and are the initial operators of them) its hard to base the pay on anything. But then agian a lot of airlines have had CRJ 700/900 and the pay has only gone down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Flyn2low 06-16-2007 04:24 PM

Who are you saying would get the 170's? RAW owns pretty much all of the options on them and has the people already trained in them.

At SKW they would have to cancel flights, they cannot junior man. Also you don't have to answer your phone, so why would you be talking to them anyway...if you're dumb enough to answer a 435 area code on your day off maybe you DESERVE to get junior manned

Actually they would probably just reflow an on-duty crew to cover the most important flying, but even that would have to stay in the footprint of the original trip.
