Purdy Neat or Briggs & Riley?

Ok I know this topic comes up very often so I did the requisite search.. from the previous posts I concluded that I should get me a PN 103NG. Then I saw a Briggs & Riley bag with similiar features, similar price and with a LIFETIME guarantee instead of the 3 yrs that come with the PN bags.

Does anyone have experience with the Briggs & Riley rollaboard? which one should I get?

WhiteH2O 06-25-2007 05:03 PM

I have the Briggs and Riley. I have had it for about 5 months and it still looks like new. Warranty is what sold me on it. Others (like the Costco one) also have the guarentee, but I don't think I will have to use it as often.

4N1flyr 06-25-2007 05:38 PM

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm looking for travel & flight bags as well. In both instances I'm looking for the most bang for the buck.

In terms of flight bags I'm looking for something that will fit both B1900D and Dash8 cockpits if at all possible. I hear the Dash's are pretty spacious up-front, so if it can fit the 1900--->it can fit the dash??? If anybody has experience in both airplanes, please sound off.

Thanks

P.S. I know everybody on here talks up coyoteworks.net, just looking for some cheaper alternatives.

WhiteH2O 06-25-2007 05:58 PM

Why do you want a roll-aboard that will fit in the cockpit?

Nothing will fit in the cockpit of a 1900, you just throw it in aft cargo.

Or the coat closet at the top of the stairs.(that's where your flight kit will be too.)

I've never flown the 1900, but dang near anything will fit in the Dash.

wasn't looking for a rollaboard that'll fit the cockpit, looking for the flight bag for that. I was able to get in the cockpit the other day and there is zero room for anything in there, so flight bag and rollaboard will have to go closet or cargo. I've been looking on ebags, seems like a good deal with lifetime warrenty for the travel bag

Any flightcase should do in the Dash. I own a purdy neat with the plastic frame and I like it a lot.

Where did 3 years come from? The little piece of paper that came with my bag says "Lifetime" on it...just curious.

I got it from the luggageworks website, where it says "warranty." I guess with PN you could still get the bag refurbished or repaired for as long as your bag lasts, for a fee. With BR, their lifetime warranty is that they'll fix anything for free for lifetime.

PN:
Our warranty is straightforward. For defects due to materials or workmanship we will repair or replace the item, at our option, during the warranty period, provided the product has been used for its intended purpose. The warranty period is three (3) years from the date of purchase on rolling bags and two (2) years on all other items.

The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear or abuse caused by airline baggage handling or other accidental damage.

LuggageWorks Online provides warranty repairs for all our products. We also repair and refurbish that faithful bag that has lasted beyond the warranty period.

BR:
If your Briggs & Riley bag is ever broken or damaged, even if it was caused by an airline, we will repair it free of charge. Simple as that!

Stay away from Pathfinder. 2 years, 2 handles, 3 sets of wheels, and it is ready for another overhaul.

Thedude 08-04-2007 07:58 PM

Screw the lifetime warranty. They will always find a reason not to repair you bag. With that being said, the worst thing that can happen will and it will always be at the start of a long trip. A-la you handle not extending etc. Pony up and buy the PNT bag and you will be much happier in the long run. Stay away from the cheap-o immitator bags and Travel Pro. I have had more bags than one crew-member should and so far the best has been the PNT bag followed by a Samsonite crew bag that is no longer made.

I'm dumb. When you say "pathfinder," which bag do you mean?

actually, the Briggs and Riley is more expensive than the PNT... I believe BR is a premier bag company. supposedly their reasoning behind the lifetime warranty is that they make their product that much superior so that they wouldn't have to make use of the warranty as much.

Thedude 08-05-2007 12:18 AM

Price does not equal quality or durability.

I didn't say that... in fact I started this thread hoping people can chime in on their experience with the bag. If you read more carefully, you'll see that the only reason why I even posted that BR is more expensive is because someone said to pony up and spend the money on PNT instead of getting a cheapo bag (they didn't realize BR isn't a cheapo bag.) Anyways it's only $30 more than PNT, but with a much better warranty it seems, which is why I was in a dilemma as to which one to buy.

OOTSK 08-05-2007 07:13 AM

I have had my PNT bag since 1995 and it has never let me down. I still use it and its in great shape. You can't beat it!

BoilerUP 08-05-2007 07:43 AM

PNT bags are TANKS. They are heavy and they are expensive, but you cannot go wrong with one. Mine is over 1.5 years old and looks brand-new other than a couple dents and paint on the skidplate.

I'm sure BR bags are very nice but looking at their website I question how well they would hold up long-term to the rigors of airline work, especially if you commute and have your bag thrown in the back of an RJ a couple times a week.

wmss 08-05-2007 08:19 AM

I've had a B&R for about three years. Its the 22 inch with the expandable frame. Had to use the warranty when a few screws came lose. Replaced them with heavy duty rivets, very hassle free other than having the problem in the first place. PN's look like they would work really good, but I like my bag because its not as heavy as the PN's and I should never have to by another bag in theory. I'll let you know how my plan works when I retire at 65.

I have that Samsonite bag you're talking about. Picked it up for $49. One of the best buys I've made.

Same here. They are still around at discounters like TJ Maxx, Ross, Burlington Coat Factory and Marshalls.

It's also available through buy.com http://www.buy.com/prod/samsonite-2-...ml#prodInfoSec
but it's $84.99 incl. shipping and includes a worthless tote

Yup I bought it in Marshalls. After tax it was like $53 and change. Lots of room, about half the weight. Only downfall is the clip to hold the flight case but I fixed that in about 2 minutes. If you don't make much and don't feel like spending much swing by Marshalls and see if they still have any left on sale.

what is the best PN to get for a new hire going to the saab? I am willing to spend some $ now so i dont have to replace it down the road. is the stealth the way to go?

BoilerUP 08-05-2007 10:55 AM

Can't speak for the Saab, but the 737 Bag works GREAT in the CRJ; easily fits in the overhead, under the seats, or in the closet.

Thats not the Samsonite that I meant. The one I am talking about was discountinued in the mid to late 90s and was a hard side bag, perfect for a 3 day trip. I think Delta may have had it issued as a crew bag or something because I still see a lot of Delta guys wheeling it around.

I've had my LW/PNT bag now for nearly 5 years, the only malfunction I have had is the foam handle cover tore-I fixed it with a handle cover(4 years ago) other then scratches, best damn bag I have EVER had!!!

If you get the LW/PNT bag, make sure you get a stabilizer strap!!! it makes a huge difference in keeping your flight kit from swinging.

dash8301 08-05-2007 04:48 PM

I have a briggs and riley. It gets some serious abuse flying for a regional airline. I have had to have repairs, they were always no questions asked, it is covered. If you have a repair shop close they can do it there no charge. Sometimes (i.e. wheels) they send you the parts.

cfii2007 08-05-2007 04:49 PM

I was wondering what the heck this post was........

Your bag is going in the cargo hold. You wont be able to bring it on board unless you want to put it in the last hold in the last row, which fits fine, but your back is pretty much at the mercy of ARAMEK
