Why? What’s wrong with keeping the requirement that has been such a proponent in raising wages? Also since the inception of the 1500 rule, we’ve had a pretty great safety record.
What’s your gripe? You a CFI who can’t buy hours and missing out on seniority?

Uh no, no one said anything about cutting down the minimums, but restoring them to where they were previously before Obama screwed them up. It works just fine for Europe, and they fly in our airspace without incident.

Yes, they are very good at flying SID to RTE to STAR with no discontinuities in LNAV/Managed only. They are not very good at taking a direct to fix, heading to intercept and fly the approach thus clogging up busy airspace or flying a visual. And they aren't flying into Charlie West or CHO at night after the tower closes, they are flying to a very limited number of international airports on canned routes. It's not the same thing.

It is not a “1500 hour rule”. It has been a requirement for decades that an ATP have 1500 hours. It was made a requirement that the SIC have an ATP certificate (previously did not) and as they did so, they relaxed the standard for ATP by giving allowing fewer hours under certain conditions.
As to the international comparisons. They have NOT been accident free over this time frame. They just didn’t have their accidents in this country.

This one was real close to us, and they probably flew through our airspace minutes before...

The way I look at is we develop a cadre of professional airline PIC's, and personal responsibility is at the heart of our pilot culture. Many other places hire button pushers, not all of which can rise to the occasion on the rare occasions when it's necessary. They do save a lot of money though.
The ATP requirement simply gives our pilots a better opportunity to learn command and responsibility in the air.

Fair point, I don’t know their background. But, this is good for the aviation community in general. 135 operators have had to substantially increase pay, so have flight instruction jobs. While it might take an extra year or two to build up flight time, new FOs are getting paid 5x what we did 8 years ago and not to mention getting hired by legacies in record time. I’d take that trade off!
