Default FAA declines Republic req to cut the 1500hrs

A big fat "NO" from the FAA about Republic's proposal saying their training is as good as the military's so they should be able to hire at 750 hours:

Alright I’ll be the one, so back in ‘em days 250hrs was enough and now 750 “academy style” isn’t.

But it wasn't enough, competitive was 2000-ish and 300-ish. To fly right seat in sched 135 in a 30-seat prop job.

Just a couple of points to consider.

1. Nobody can definitively say how much the 1500 hour minimum has impacted safety. There are way too many factors to consider. Anyone who says they know, is wrong.
2. In a competition between a 750 hour civilian training program and a 750 hour military career (consider not only the quality of training, but the highly competitive selection process, and the experience gained by the time a mil pilot has 750 hours), I would take the military every time. (With an exception for rotorwing aviators. It's asinine that military helicopter pilots get the reduction to 750 hours.)

Back in the day the Captain did what he (not she, because again, back in ‘em days) and the other two guys in the cockpit kept their mouth shut and died like men.

Back in the day we didn’t have an AP disconnect alarm so we could crash into the Everglades while troubleshooting a burned out lightbulb.

except it was. Plenty of guys got into rj’s at the regionals in 07’-08’ at 250. Then again leading up to the rule going into effect in 2013. I remember the push from the regionals trying to grab as many 250 guys as they could before implementation.

Yup. In the mid 90's not only were minimums 1500TT and 500 ME to fly a 19 seat Jetstream, but you had to pay FSI $10,000 for the privilege.

And once you were signed off, starting pay was around $13,500 per year. A considerable pay cut from the $24000 per year I was making flying cancelled checks in piston twins.

I’ll never understand why any 121 pilot wants the minimums cut down. Guess we’d rather have regional FO pay back below poverty wages.
