SKYW Hiring

Obviously all regionals are hiring quite a bit and some are hiring more than others. Does anyone have any idea how long it will take us to get "caught up" at SkyWest? We have obviously had to hire because of growth and not so much because of attrition. I can't imagine 20 a month would be that hard to replace once everything settles down. We still have some more planes coming for Midwest, so does anyone else think we will cut back hiring tremendously by early next year?

Correct me if I am wrong, but on the APC website it has 45 new hires going to class. The way I read the email that was sent out, it will be 45 PEOPLE in class. Those people will be a mix between new hires and transitions. So, it appears to me that we have already cooled down on our hiring. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Thanks.

When I went to a recruitment event last month they said SkyWest has an attrition rate of about 200-250 pilots a year. That's about all I know about it...

That's significantly less than most regionals but that is still quite a bit. I'm kind of surprised.

Last email I saw on the issue was the we had 190 in training, and 120 pilots quit since the beginning of 2007.

When I interviewed they told me 300 pilots or so attrition per year, and that they were looking to hire a total of 700 pilots in 07, and an addt'l 700 in 08, effectively increasing the Pilot group by another 800 by next years end. Looks like they're on the ball for it this year atleast...!

I went to one of the "career fairs" back in May and the recruiters said they were actually behind the pace they set out for, that being 350 additions by June.

I think they had problems filling classes earlier because the short notice they were giving to the Interviewees...this last class that started was pretty much full, and from what I hear the next one is as well. I hope LoL.

Yeah, the 20 a month (200-240 per year) I know about. I was just curious about next year and Experimental AB said that we are planning on another 700 new hires in 2008. If that is the case, then something must be in works. I figure that after all of the hiring this year, that we would only have to hire for attrition next year. 700 pilots for next year doesn't sound right, but it sounds great for job security when UAL and DAL take all their mainline routes back! By the way, when is that going to happen?

I agree. Unless we have more A/C coming, I can't see 700 more in 08. Delta has sent more 900's to everone other than us. Without more A/C the # don't add up.

So the question in my mind is:

Would you

A) interview with SkyWest as planned next Monday and hope for the best? or,
B) take the Lear 31A job I was offered paying $32k/yr.?
