Wide awake in the middle of the night

... because some regional airline (that rhymes with "bah") trainees decided to have a blast at the hotel pool throughout the night! (pool is right outside my room btw.)
I mean I have nothing against these guys (and one loud gal) and them having some fun during training... but it's a communal hotel and it IS past 2 at night.. is it too much to ask to have some consideration for others that do need sleep? to keep it down a bit? Been trying to fall asleep for a while now.. it's 2:30 AM and they are STILL yelling and laughing so darn loudly and doing cannonballs into the pool. gawwwwwd.

ok end of my vent.

lol,Sorry to hear about that, Wow can't believe the pool is open all night, most hotels close at around 11. anyways good luck

Puckhead 06-30-2007 11:55 PM

You mean the LOST art of consideration? I feel for ya man hope you can get some rest soon!

Ear plugs. $2.56 for a box of 30 good 'soft' pairs.

Works well on squalling brats and regional pilots, even crew scheduling.

I hear you but its not trainee's, I am a trainee, its the screaming brats at my hotel....... I need to invest in ear plugs

yeah, I was thinking about those at one point.. but my only concern is what if I don't hear my alarm go off in the morning.. that would be disastrous. anyways I ended up falling asleep at like 3:30.. and they were still outside. lol.

Call the front desk and *****. if you're on a trip, fill out a hotel eval form (or the equivalent).

do whatever you can to make sure that in the future your rooms at hotels do not face inward or the pool or anywhere else that a lot of noise tends to come from.

flynavyj 07-01-2007 07:12 AM

And if you've got class the following morning, all is well...they probably won't last through training anyway. Other note, if it's a weekend, go have a beer w/ them and relax yourself...all that studying will run a person crazy.

For me, i'd be calling the hotels front desk every 5 minutes until it was quiet outside.

mccube5 07-01-2007 07:19 AM

It's the weekend, go relax and have a good time!

Kalyx,

Maybe I didn't read your posting right...are you a trainee also ?? Or, were you on a trip as a crewmember.

In any event, the company has an obligation to give you rest facilities that are conducive to rest. Your union and the rank and file, are the check and balance for this. Not to get too far off the track, but most hotel pools close at 10-11pm for the very reason of providing adequate rest for their patrons. So now you have a handful-of-options. 1. Call the front desk, they are being paid to keep the hotel quiet after hours. 2. Send in a debrief to your professional standards/hotel committee stating the pool is left open past 2am. #3. (Least recommended) Contact the company with the details. -OR-, you can kinda take my approach....

My sleep is kinda important, so if someone wakes me up, I usually get up, open the window and politely yell, "Knock it off you @#$#@ #@@#$#@, $%$#.

If that doesn't work, call building maintenance and get a 50 foot extentsion cord. Hook up the old clock radio and pitch it in the pool with your offending crew members. After a loud zapping sound, all the laughing and carrying on will come to a quick close and you might move up three seniority numbers.

Just a thought, hope a pair of earplugs works better.

What ever happened to opening the door and asking them to keep it down? If they want to be idiots and disregard the request (at 2am), then it might be the time to cal the front desk etc.....

I used to get really mad and set the alarm clock, volume - max, for 5 minutes after I leave the room (usually at 4am) and other reactive type behavior.

Although I've found that with a little proactive polite and tactful interdiction I could get an apology and have them stop the annoying behavior.

kalyx522 07-01-2007 01:20 PM

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I like that one about electifying the offenders. Unfortunately though that wouldn't help my seniority cuz I'm with a different company. otherwise, hmm..
I woulda opened the window, but hotel windows are usually sealed shut.. but I know what you mean about killing them with kindness. anyways so I waited about an hour to see if they'd calmn down and they hadn't so I did call front desk. She told me she'd take care of it right away but noise level stayed the same.
and yeah if it were the weekend for me too I wouldn't have even gone to bed that early.. but had to get up early this morning. i dont know if any of us regional pilots have a such thing as a real "weekend" consisting of sat and sun. btw mccube, how's Big Sky treating u?

Curious which hotel you stayed in last night? I travel a lot and insist the company (true, I don't work for an airline and hotels know I'm a lawyer) put me in a room on the higher floors, away from the pool and not in the family section. I was in a Red Lion last week. Something minor happened, but I complained anyway. Couldn't believe the service I got. Just about everyone sprung into action! (It could be they didn't want other guests to see me in my worn jammies standing in the front lobby. Bad for business. :)).

I like the electrocution idea. Going to try it next time just for fun.

Just remember, you only hurt yourself if you get mad.

I think mythbusters did something like that :)

My personal favorite is the arrival of the late crew, blocked into rooms right next to the early crew's, complete with shouts of, "Good night!" "See you tomorrow!" and the requisite four door SLAMS! Of all the people who ought to know better...:(

I appear to be the only person dense enough to not figure out which airline rhymes with "bah."

flyergurl 07-03-2007 02:51 PM

ABK MAN 07-03-2007 03:16 PM

Mabee201 07-03-2007 03:42 PM

BAH = RAH?? depends how you look at it...

heavyjetpilot 07-03-2007 04:13 PM

That sort of thing happened to me years ago while on a layover. So long ago I can't even remember where but the guests in the next door room very being very loud and watching tv. I had a fairly early show around 3:00 am or so. When I got ready to go all was quiet next door and when I was ready to leave the room I put my alarm clock next to the adjoining room door and turn the volume on the alarm buzzer all the way up. I figured when the alarm went off about 30 minutes later at least it would make alot of noise and keep them up for awhile.

Ain't freight life great..

Cheers,

heavyjet
