AE interview HELP

I have AE interview in a week and been studying hard. After reviewing so many interview gauges most of them say very positive things and how easy and simple it is yet majority of the candidates were not hired. Why so many failures and what can I do, study or do to prepare for better outcome? Are there any AE study guides?

Can only help with PSA. Sorry. Good luck.

Theres a guy on here named EglCL65. He used to do interviews for Eagle. Send him a message he can give you advice. Look at all the Posts about Eagle in the last month you will find him on here somewhere.

Don't rely on gouge.

It's great to feel comfortable in the interview and a heads-up can help in that regard but things will go down-hill in a hurry if you come across as trying to game the interview.

Study, verbalize (i.e. talk to yourself and anyone else who will listen) your "I remember a time" stories, practice the mental math, and just be yourself.

Have fun & good luck.

The HR team only has about half hour to get to know you - let them.

Very good advice. Personality definitely goes a long way. And definitely definitely definitely have some stories lined up for the inevitable "tell me about a time" questions. Nothing destroys your confidence like hemming and hawing or telling an interviewer "gosh, I can't really think of anything".

As far as gouge goes, BE CAREFUL! Double check the answers given with the gouge. I have seen more than a few that were wrong. And make sure you know WHY specific answers are correct. You don't want to start sweating if an interviewer decides to dig a little. By the same token, if you don't know an answer don't try to BS your way out of it. Be honest and say that you don't know. Above all, try to relax, try to be outgoing without being obnoxious (you don't need to go around the room of 30 some-odd interviewees and shake everyones hand or get everyone's email). The guys that seemed to have the most trouble during my interview experiences were the guys who were cramming, had their nose buried in gouge and were wetting themselves over every little detail. The guys that did the best were the ones who chatted with the people around them, swapped war stories and maybe did some light review during the down times. Best of luck to you.

just be yourself and relax. they need bodies. try not to answer questions how you think they want them answered, but rather how you would simply answer the question.

study jepps and hr. airport diagram and sid/star, ILS. It is easy, just if you have anything to hide tell them upfront. I started training at another airline but a family emergency made it so I had to leave (great decision). I was upfront with them and they said they don't look good upon that but thanks for telling us. There was a guy that landed gear up and he was sent home earily. Mostly HR sent people home. Good luck and if you need a internal rec let me know, I will share the $500 with you.

Ok when you walk in you will do two parts Tech and HR. On the Tech i look for to see if your thinking or not. You can give me the wrong answer and I will still pass you. But only to the point!!!! You cant give me some Off the wall answer. I had someone tell me how long the Runway is just by looking at the tuchdown zone markings. So i was oh do tell me how. lets just say that NH did not make it past me. Then the Hr is like Why Eagle. What do you look for in a company. Whats your weekness. Ect. Tech is just beable to read Jeeps and 121 landing and app regs.
PM me for more info i will be out on the road for the next 2 weeks so good luck girls/guys

I would PM you, but I don't have enough posts yet. I've had my application in with Eagle for some time, but no luck as of yet. Regardless, I'm willing to wait because I want to be part of American and receive the great training that Eagle has to offer. Just like FL410, I had to leave training at another airline because my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and I couldn't commit to a return date due to her health. I know that's a strike against me, but I'm glad to know that it's not an automatic disqualifier. What are some automatic disqualifiers at Eagle? Thanks in advance.

how poorly do they look at you if you need to break a contract (does it matter if it is a small private company or big airline) due to something like that. Family emergency like that one.

Whacker77 07-07-2007 05:59 PM

There was training contract for me, but it only took effect after the PC. Technically speaking, I was only conditionally employed and full employment depended on completion of IOE. Life got in the way for me, but things happen for a reason, at least I hope they do. I've always wanted to work for Eagle because of their affiliation with American and their training program. If my previous job experience precludes me from a job with Eagle, I'll be very disappointed, but I'll have to get over it.

FL410 07-08-2007 08:57 AM

Whacker,
Sorry about the breat cancer. Family should be number one in everyones book. Just be straight up with them and tell them. If they don't want you because of that, you should NOT want to work for their airline. That will not be the deciding factor. Relax be easy to talk to, confident and humble. I interviewed at Skywest, and Xjet. I am happy that I am at Eagle with the stability, current movement, and people. I am at LAX and people here are very easy going and like to have fun. Training pay is better that average. I have made almost $6,000 in the 3 months that I was in training. Good luck and if I can help with anything else let me know.

If you have a legitimate reason (or at least tell them you did) then it should not be a problem. If you did not pay the balance on the contract, it is remotely possible that your previous company would give you a less-than-stellar recomendation but most companies would be too afraid of getting sued to even go that far.

If anyone asks you about paying the contract, just say that you are having hard times due to the aforementioned family emergency and will work out a payment schedule when you can.

I will caution you that a typical newbie mistake is to get caught up in the paegentry of the airline business and make a career decision based on the paint scheme of an airplane! This would be a VERY bad way to select a major airline, and is ludicrous when selecting a regional. There are MANY criteria that you must consider which are actually important to your career, family, and QOL...the paint scheme is NOT one of them.

Eagle's affiliation with AA is almost totally meaningless, they hae different unions and the AA pilots hate eagle pilots (and vice versa)... and the flowthrough agreement has expired!

It is probably a good idea to avoid the few regionals that are known to have horrible training programs, but the majority are about the same as eagle: Roughly 10% new hire washout rate.

Relax and you'll be fine. There is some great info on here as well as Will fly for food. Great company and training here so you will learn tons of new things.

You might have a chance, did you attend an aviation university or an ATP program? I think they are accepting folks with 400/100 from those sources.

Pilotpip 07-10-2007 08:27 AM

Hey Whacker,

Leaving a program to take care of your mother is a commendable thing to do. I wouldn't consider it a strike against you. If they ask why you didn't complete training, be totally honest. We all have a mom, and most of us love our moms. Would you really want to work for a company that's heartless enough to hold that against you?

I am attending Embry-Riddle right now, but only doing online courses, and I did not get my ratings there...its rediculous. Not sure if that would help at all or not

It should be ok, definitely apply. Contact Career Services and see if they can help too, back in the day they wrote me a letter of rec and I got a call from AE a week later.
