Mesa Pilots (UAX) - Help!

I've been trying to get out of PHX to IAD for 2 days, the loads on every airline have been completely full and I've been getting bumped off the jumpseat (all the crews have been professional and friendly - thanks for trying).

Any Mesa pilots have suggestions on what to do? I'm new-ish, and don't want be get caught out of position. Is there any way to get a positive space ticket from the company so that I'm not out of position....what can I do who do I call?

Thanks for any advise!

You work for Mesa, and live in PHX, but commute to IAD?

Try two-legging it...PHX-DFW/IAH/MCI/STL/ORD then on to IAD.

Worst case, take US Airways to DCA or US/SWA to BWI and take the SuperShuttle to Dulles...

Skywest will often bail you out of a situation like that if you have made an honest effort. But mesa? Not a chance. The good news is that they probably can't afford to fire you right now.

Call in sick, and enjoy your days off...it's the only way you'll get more than 2-3 days off at mesa.

From DCA you can take the Metro to VA and then a bus to IAD. Show your ID for a discount on the bus. I doubt the co will positive space you if you're based in IAD. SWA to BWI may be an option then Amtrak from BWI to Union Station, then follow steps above.

The PHX domicile has been downsized to near non-existence. When I left PHX was pushing 12 years for CA's, and 2-3 years for FO's (5 year FO to hold a non-standup line).

You're best option might be to get fired and leave Mesa in the rear view mirror of your airline career. I hear CHQ is offering big bonuses for pilots already qualified on the CRJ/ERJ.

My Dad lives in Phoenix so I have spent a lot of time non-reving out of there. My best advice would be to try and catch that United A320 that goes non-stop PHX-IAD. It leaves at 8am. If you cannot catch that flight, I think Denver is a good connection. When I have been stuck in Denver, the only flight that I can ever get out of Denver on is that DEN-PHX flights. That route is flown by United, US Air, Southwest, and Frontier, so there is always plenty of seats and plenty of flights. Denver and Washington Dulles are both United hubs so there is a ton of flights, many times on widebody jets (767's and 777's). Lots of seats (and jumpseats). You can also go DEN-DCA on United and Frontier, or DEN-BWI on United and Southwest.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I don't live in PHX or commute, I'm just here visiting family. I've tried every flight, going anywhere, on every airline (or so it seems). I've made more than an honest effort by spending going on two days at the airport trying to get out of here. This IS my nightmare.

Should I call the company and tell them what's up, is there anything they can do like a positive space ticket considering the circumstances?

FedEx or UPS would be options too. FDX jumpseat page is on their profile page here. UPS call: 800-228-2739

Man just call in sick. Don't panic it's happened to us all.

I wouldn't call the company asking for a PS ticket. Chances are they will say "sorry bub" and if you call in sick after telling the company that you are having trouble getting back to IAD they might connect the dots.

Did you try the "red-eye" that goes out to ORD around mid-night - I never had a problem getting a row of seats to myself on that one and then I've never had a problem ORD to IAD.

But basically have you tried multi-legging it - I can't believe there are no seats/jumpseats heading in an easterly direction out of PHX.

I use to non rev out of PHX to CLT and it was a nightmare and Im sure with the HP/U merger there are a lot more jumpseaters between East and West.....you can use a commuter clause at Mesa once a year that is worthless. My advice and speaking from experience...work somewhere else.

Agree. Put yourself out of that misery and help put MESA out of business too.

Welcome to what we commuters call "everyday life". Call in sick...the company will not help you and will probably punish you for your honest effort.

Mesa won't positive space you. That would be too nice to a pilot. They are too low quality.

There's your ticket out of town. Get on any of their flights and start heading East.
