XJT Attrition

What has the average attrition been at XJT over the past couple of years?

Roper92 07-12-2007 10:22 AM

I want to say around 30 to 40 per month give or take.. We are still hiring 80 per month and haven't received a new airplane for quite some time meaning lots of movement. CAL seems to be the popular place for XJT guys to go to but plenty go to SWA and other majors.

ChinookDriver47 07-12-2007 10:56 AM

are they still holding fast to the 600/100 times. I have about 550 /135 right now. I can DEFINITELY get that knocked out by the end of the summer if they are being a stickler on the times. I want to get an app in soon...assuming that I decide to head to the airlines.

God, I love Continental. I fly them whenever I can when I am heading to the South.

Not trying to hijack the thread but I had to chime in here. I too absolutely love fly CAL; and XJT for that matter. Anytime someone asks for a travel recommendation, I always point them towards the CAL family. Free food, Free upgrade to 1st class, clean aircraft, good customer service (in my experience).. now about that 1st year FO pay haha .. nevermind :D

Plenty of people are getting on with the bare minimums. I barely had the minimums when I got hired. Knock that time and get your app in. If you do decide to go airlines, XJT is definitely the place to be. I love it here.

KA, the free food is really nice..something you don't see often these days. Have you been on an ExpressJet branded flight yet? I hear the food is fabulous! Well, for airline standards that is..

I don't even hafta to buy any food on trips now that i'm on the branded side...Only booze. Life is good here.

So, the wife and I decided that while we are away at Ft. Rucker, we will pay off some bills, get done with Flight School, and put the app in. At least that way I can put 250+ hours of turbine on my resume' regardless if it will count or not, I will be IFR current, and have logged extra time in the past 12 months. She is getting her promotion soon, which will offset the almost 60% paycut that I will be taking as an FO.

Is everyone at XJT getting just the mins, or can you max out that 1000 hours per year?

You can fly as many hours as you want, my pay credit for the month of June is Like 136 hrs, which is just bananas..............

I have averaged about 95+ hrs a month here

Holy crap how'd you manage that? Generally I find that even if you go with a lower credit line here, when you pickup trips you start butting against the 100/30 issue and it can't get much above 115.

All open time has been paid at 150% all summer...its most likely he has picked up 130+ hrs of credit, while only flying 90-95 hrs.

ChinookDriver47 07-13-2007 08:24 AM

I have another question, since XJT is probably where I will end up dropping an app...

When one upgrades, do you go back to the bottom of the pay scale? For instance, if you are a 4 year FO and you upgrade, do go back to year 1 pay for CAPT, or are those pay / years based on how long you have been with the company?

Here is some rationale behind that...eventually, because I live in Seattle, I would like to work for Alaska as a Major. Alaska's pay scale starts off at 30/hr for 1 year CAPT, which is about a 70% pay cut from a 5 year FO. Do they really expect you to take that much of a cut? Granted, it almost quadruples in year 2, but still...that's a hell of a drop to upgrade.

We get 150% all the time, but it's pretty difficult to get that up above 115 hours because you start butting up against the 100 hours FAR block, unless you started with a really low block credit for the month and/or you had some trips dropped for OE, and then just picked up open time trips. In reality, it's pretty tough to get a low credit line with lots of days off when there is open time, because open time = short staffed, and they don't build low credit lines when we are short staffed.

My question is how you managed to fly so much and still be on here posting every day :P

No one has an answer to my question?

Most airlines you stay in your year of service, IE 5 year FO upgrades to CA, you'd be on 5 year CA pay.

I am getting 130 hours pay for last month. Half the month was finishing up upgrade and i picked up 6 days worth of flying which = almost 60 hours add pay on top of my min guarantee of 75 hours.:D not bad for ultimately about 14 days work ;)

And to the ? about how many hours you can work, i flew 994 hours last year. Timed out in Nov and got paid line value of 104 to stay home all of Dec with my wife and son. :) I didn't sacrifice many days off throughout the year either to do that. Just smart bidding and high value pairings.

fosters 07-13-2007 10:30 AM

Get while the getting is good my friend...it won't last forever! :D

I know its crazy, I live in Base so I can pick up day trips, and often do, a lot of times in EWR when SWAP is in effect Sh*t gets canceled so though my line value stays the same, I can fly more hours............

Youre company will figure it out soon enough and then the gravey train will end. It always happens that way.

When you upgrade at XJT, you stay at your years of service (i.e. 3rd year FO upgrades to 3rd year CA). Kinda like getting promoted in the Army.

Ex-64 driver here, at XJT now. Drop the app as soon as you get the time. We need more Army guys around. PM me if you have any questions. Good luck.
