American Eagle in ORD?

Hi everyone
It's the first time I am posting...I just got the "yes" from American Eagle and can now chose what base I want. Can anybody tell me what equipment I would probably get out of Chicago? And does anybody know anything about crashpads in the area???
Maybe anybody here that is based out of ORD for Eagle??
Thank you so much!!

ERJ and CRJ are out of ORD

MetJet23 07-14-2007 07:34 AM

Congratulations whiskypapa!... How was the interview? And if you don't mind my asking, what were your times? Best of luck in training.

whiskypapa 07-14-2007 07:41 AM

thanks, everybody is super nice there...first technical and HR interviews...if they like you they send you to the sim. I flew a full motion Focker 100...was amazing!! First time in my life in a jet!! ;-)
They tell you right away weather you passed or not. If you do, you get the medical exam the next morning. My hours are 1500 and 250. But there were guys hired the same day with way less! They just told them to get to at least 50hrs multi before the class begins.

320ToBearz 07-14-2007 08:20 AM

as someone mentioned ERJ and CRJ in ORD. if the latest vacancy bid is any indication, you will get the ERJ in ORD.

crashpads galore along the blue line.

HercDriver130 07-14-2007 09:00 AM

did they did the old style FULL workup medical or just eyes...and stuff that has been reported.

Whacker77 07-14-2007 03:41 PM

You mentioned that guys were hired with way less. What were those times and why do you think Eagle told them to get another 50 hours multi? Were they just above the 100 hour mark or was it a currency thing?

no, actually their hours were way less...around 20, maybe 30 at the most. They told them to get their hours up to 50 hours before class begins. But maybe they had some kind of bachelors degree...I don't really know??

what's the blue line???
is it easy to find a crashpad? How much would they be in ORD?
sorry for all my questions...am just a little worried about this whole commuting life style...

Any ORD guys have any idea how long of a drive it would be from Valpariso IN, I have family there and could sit reserve without needing a crash pad.... what is AE's callout time in ORD?

id say between 1 to 2 hours depending on traffic and the time of day you take the 80/94 to the 294 to ORD

whiskypapa 07-16-2007 12:42 PM

ORD or LGA

if you, anybody, were able to chose your own base...which one would you rather take if you had to commute. ORD or LGA????

Depends where you live. Check travel.airwise.com/schedules and see how many options you would have from your home airport to ORD or LGA. Both airports are prone to delays and congestion, so I would say its a toss up. If you bid for LGA you would be guaranteed the ERJ, and would be allowed to easily transfer to ORD if the commute didnt work out too well. If you bid for ORD you might get the CRJ, and the only other base that has the CRJ is DFW. Food for thought, congrats on the job and good luck chosing a base.

What is AE's reserve callout time in ORD.... anybody?

2 hours from callout to sign in for the trip.

blue line is the "El" (the subway in chicago). the blue line starts at ORD and runs through chicago to the west side again.

http://www.transitchicago.com/maps/rail/rail.html

it is very easy to find a crash pad. they usually are $125-$200/month.

depends on the time of day. with a 2 hr callout it wouldn't be too prudent as traffic stinks in the morning.

technically its 120 minutes......;)

swaayze 07-16-2007 08:25 PM

Take ORD unless LGA is a much easier commute for you. JMO having commuted to both. Your rise up the list should be quicker in ORD and crashpads are plentiful and generally more easily accessible there (the city's crackdown on crashpads notwithstanding, not familar since that happened).

If youre going to commute I'd say ORD cuz of traffic and accessability. (Depending on where u live and # of flights to/from "home") Great crews out there too. I asked the same question to a Sr. E145 CA ORD and even though there is crazy traffic at ORD, LGA is worse. He said he gets stuck out LGA and JFK plenty.

Plus, as a Chicagoan I think you'll like the area around ORD a little better. Not to bash New Yauwk for any reason but Chi is cleaner, safer/accessable (around ORD), Airline Community 2 stops away on the EL (blue line train). Check out Pavillion Apts. You're sure to find airline crews to accommodate u. If any questions about ORD PM me. Can't wait to get home!

You think the Focker 100 was fun, I got to fly the old 707 now that was a monster to fly around, but tons of fun! Take the ERJ if you get the chance. Lots of more flying and options to move around if you want. I had a friend on the 700 and he spent his two years there on reserve the whole time. Times are changing there but it is a super senior aircraft and it will be hard to move up the seniority very much if at all. Good Luck!
