Asa
Does anyone know the status on ASA?
I've heard they are hiring from 30-40 month.
We're (ASA) hiring 60 per month. That's straight from President B.L. at the last meeting he had with the pilots. It's due to attrition.
ASA and SLC
With Skywest already there, how much room is there for ASA in SLC? Is SLC senior or junior for ASA? Thanks
Currently we have just over 100 pilots in SLC. It is very senior out there, however, there are newhires on the bottom of the list sitting reserve. They will never hold a line or get off of reserve. Rumor from the CP out there is a reduction in flights by at least a third or so, if not more, coming in Janurary.
Is ASA really losing 60 pilots a month? I was told ASA hiring 5-10 a month due to attrition and hiring for avg. 2 new a/c a month 22. (30-40).
I just flew with a base chief pilot last week and that is where my info comes from. ASA is not pleased with the attrition rate and is looking at ways, such as profit sharing, to get guys to stay on board longer. But for now, the only way to stop the bleeding is to continue to hire at that rate. I noticed the senority numbers on the new guys as of last week are up in the 1,800's now. If i remember correctly, it was only in the 1,600's or so over the summer. They have to hire for both attrition and new a/c deliveries at once.
So i guess now is the best time to get in? And is ASA going to get any 700's to fly out of ATL
There has always been a 70 base in ATL, ever since '02 or so when we took delivery of the first ones. Right now there are about 200 pilots, CA's & FO's, on the 70. We're waiting to hear where the new 70's that were announced a few weeks ago are going to go....either us or Skywest? Chances are, they're coming here to ATL. That may explain the latest awards that came out today. I have been #60 of 86 FO's or so, now there are 98 of us on the list. They don't just add pilots to a list for no reason.

I just interviewed at ASA and everyone was very positive. Now i just have to wait on the word whether I got the job or not. Does anyone know if they pay for training and put you up in a hotel?
Yes, ASA pays you guarentee, 75 hours per month, plus per diem, 8 hrs a day, and they pay for your hotel. The hotel is the Red Roof right scross the street from Flight Safety, where all your training be held. Just beware of the rats and roaches! No kidding. I've been here 3+ years and that place gets scarier every time we had to stay there. Pay days are on the 15th and last day of each month. On the last day of the month, you'll get a paycheck for half your guarentee, 37.5 hrs, at $19.02/hr. On the 15th, you'll get the other half of guarentee plus all the per diem for the previous month. You'll have to submit a credit sheet by the 2nd of the month to get paid your per diem while in training. For some reason, they don't have that part of the pay process integrated into the payroll system. There are a few restaurants around the hotel. I've always had a minifridge and microwave in my rooms there. Also, ask for a room that has the big desk. That'll help tremendously for the 2 months you're going to be living in that room. Good luck with the call back....see you out on the line!
Thanks for all the info. I was so impressed when I interviewed with ASA. Everyone wanted to give tips and were very friendly. Yea those beds at the Red Roof are something else. It has been just over two weeks so I hope i get the good news in the mail tomorrow or Tuesday. Got to love the waiting game.

Class dates?
I interviewed on Oct. 12 and recieved a letter placing me in the pool. Does anyone (IFlyFL410) know what the plans for class dates are? Right now I am commuting from ATL to LGA for my current job and I just want to be at ASA ASAP so I can quit this communting crap. Any info at all would be great!
No, I have no idea when class dates are. Did you happen to work for ALG before the merger? I was a SYR FO a few years ago myself.
No, I was hired in June. When did you leave PDT?
I worked for Allegheny from April '01 - September '02.
okay, cool. so you left before the merger... why did you leave for ASA? Are you from ATL?
I left ALG because of all the USAir issues etc. I was origionally in DFW here at ASA. I have no use for ATL and only live here to avoid the commute.
So what are your thoughts about classes? Do they usually put off classes for the holiday season? Or is there a chance they'll have a dec class?
I wish I could help ya out, but it could be either one of your guesses. I have no clue.
well thanks for all that you've posted today and previously. it really helps a lot!
not a problem. Let me know when you get a class date. I'm curious as to when you'll start.
