ASA Upgrade
 

I was just checking out the ASA upgrade time on Airline Pilot central, and it says the most junior captain was hired in June of 2004, but I was looking at the pilot seniority list and compared it to the most recent awards letter and the lowest seniority captain was hired in 2002. Does anyone know what the actual upgrade time is at right now? I would think the award letters are accurate unless they do not show captains in training, but even so the website has said 2004 for awhile now and I don't think upgrade training takes that long (although I'm really not sure how long it takes) . If anyone works at ASA and knows who is upgrading now please respond, I am very curious. thanks

Not sure myself but a Captain I just flew with had a friend who started in there in 00/01 and still can't hold captain in the jet. So I'm gonna guess awhile.

I heard the same thing but things are starting to move esp. with the majors hiring. A Capt. I know there said it could be as low as 2 years 6 months from now. There is little to no reserve right now on the 200 and 700.

Not to sound like a broken record........If you are a low time new hire don't worry about it. Unless we have another 9/11 upgrade times should be back to normal which is about 3 years. Trust me, given the fact that it takes about 3 to 4 months to get you online, another couple of months of reserve, then throw in a few vacations, recurrent grounds, etc. by the time your ready, the upgrade will be there.

Here's the broken record part. Don't pick an airline on upgrade time. Pick as if the day you get there, you face a 50/50 chance of being there forever. If your goal is to treat the regional as a stepping stone (not that there's anything wrong with that...) then coming from a quality company with ALPA representation is just as valuable as quick PIC time. Proof?

I was hired in late 02' and have finished upgrade training on the CRJ200. The above statement is false.

I'm one of the June '04's...But actual upgrade class is 09/25/07. Not enough instructors

How do you both like ASA?? I know it has it s ups and downs like any airline...any suggestions for me for my interviwe on the 30th and 31st??? I have been studying the gouges, ATP Gleim, and Jepp Charts etc....

Just a job....If you go in not expecting a lot then it's a good job, but if you have the mindset that the company owe's you something, you'll turn bitter in 6 months.

What do you guys at ASA think provides better QOL, the 200 or 700?
