Hey dude,
You get your base as you finish the sim, before you start IOE. Texas. There's not much reserve.. they kind of put you on reserve the first month you come into your base unless you are replacing an upgrade or someone who moved (or quit.) I flew with senority #1 this month because we are so short staffed- almost everybody has a reserve day or 2 thrown into their schedule from time to time. There is a lot of opportunity to add flying, and making an ok paycheck in return. You get per-diem in houston so that helps. Feel free to ask anything man. |

How hard is it to get based out of tyr? Is there a wait for it? I know theres not much there but thats about 30-45 min from my house, it would be great to fly out of there for at a little while.

Im sorry, but you will never see an "ok" paycheck at Colgan.......................never. Im 1st year F/O at XJT and my most recent Gross Paycheck was like 3,177.00 I would be surprised if CA's at Colgan ever make that:p

Hey pilot man, is this who i think it is? I used to instruct at PWG like a year and a half ago. If so, I've been trying to get a hold of you.
XJT is a better airline than Colgan. I've been on the line here since Dec. 06 and my class is Dec. 07 for Saab upgrade. (im current beech guy) There's a lot of reasons not to go to Colgan, and only a few to go.. but if TYR is close to home, then its probably not a bad bet. No matter what you choose, best of luck, and there will always be a million nay-sayers as to what is best for you. TYR shouldnt be a big problem. They wont offer Texas guys the beech anymore (like myself) so you're safe there. If you dont like it after a year, then maybe go to XJT or something? I have about 650 hours this year in the plane, so that puts me pretty close to 100 hrs a month, maybe 125 pay credit each month- you def. wont be rich flying here. Your base changes your entire career at Colgan. BHB guys get 4 days off a week. A lot of XJT guys say they dont regret their decision to fly there, and of that I'm certainly envious. I have not met one Colgan pilot that said the same. If I could do it again, I would not come to 9L simply because of the lifestyle I have to live; but my second year pay is about $44an hour, and it's too close to leave now. If I could drive home everynight, or even commute home twice a month, maybe it would be a whole lot better. |

Saab I dont think these guys are hearing you, they dont seem to understand that colgan will never raise its pay or QOL unless they cant attract people, I suppose their theory is that as long as you have 250 hours wonder pilots to choose from why change anything.
A lot of us will bail if it doesn't pass. You guys still hiring at Jet Link? ;) |
hey batman, i cant send you a pm yet, you need a few more posts, but i can send you an email or something. Yea I used to work at pwg too, good ol line service.

No joke man, some of these guys are scary. I had about 1000 hrs when i got hired and I was worried about making it though the sim. But I dont think I could talk on the radios with 250hrs... Things are on the up and up here though, and I am waiting to see what happens with this vote thing at the end of this month.

It will all work out. Oh and as a message to all about colgan: batman is a perfect example of what to do at colgan. come here and get a high time line immediately, fly your arse off and a quick upgrade will follow. Other airline upgrade times are coming down but that just means colgan's upgrade times are decreasing even further (a year for my class). Just do what is right for you. i will be making my turbine pic long before some of you at the better regionals which just puts me a little further in line for the next step. In the end that is what colgan is all about (and for those who don't complain about every little thing, it aint that bad here). colonel, what's a russian gunship doing here!? |

PS I am flying 95+ hrs a month, you dont need to go to an airline that treats their pilots like slaves to fly a lot............... |
Saab,
Awesome. If i could do it again, I would have gone to XJT, but things just didnt work out like that. I really like the idea of online trip trading. I'm not trying to start an argumment about whos regional airline is better... like i said, you guys are just better. I can't say i really care if anyone wants to come to Colgan or doesnt. If its good for you, then come on over, there's a lot of good dudes here and maybe you'll find a good niche somewhere. But if you can go to XJT.. i can't recommend it enough. It's just too late for me. Sometimes i think i would rather sit 3 years as an FO and have a badass schedule and a good life than take my upgrade this year. Sure would be nice to have an APU.. or even an Autopilot. Rumor has it the SAAB has a cup holder! Also guys, please dont put us in the same sentence as Blow Jets and Mesa. I fly a 19 seat plane for 19 seat prices. (I make more than those guys!) |
They got rid of the Merit upgrades. Hopefully the interview will go next, but really now its more of just TB touching base and getting to know you before you go upgrade.
Saab guys wont bid Beech upgrades, or else they could upgrade a lot sooner right now. Some guys were hired with like 500 hrs, and they dont know why they cant upgrade after a year. All those dudes leaving for the Dash 8 is whats moving us all up so fast right now. Of course, I will believe it when its sitting on the ramp.. err.. in the maintenance hanger in Manassas. Lets see the cluster that we make in Newark! |
