Yeah, just do it for good measure and less hassle at the security line.

I think so. I would just do it to avoid the frustration.

Of course you could simply wear your uniform... it tends to reduce a lot of the non-rev hassles...

I ALWAYS wear my uniform non-revving. Number one you are treated like a human (sometimes) by ground staff and hack a better chance at getting that first-class upgrade.

Number two and probably most important is you stick it to the man (the man being TSA) and all their crapola and bring your damn toothpaste!

Many airports will allow pilots in civvies to bring their gels...but unfortunately not all of them. In my experience DFW = No, SLC = Yes. I stopped trying after DFW.

Actually Rome, Naples, and Catania also let me keep my stuff

There does not appear to be a set national policy (or if there is it's not followed). I think it is based on how much the local supervisor hates pilots.

I'll second that. It seems like most of the places I have been to said you have to be in uniform. To tell you the truth for me it least it seems like the smaller the airport the stricter the TSA is. Guess just more time on their hands. Long story short just wear your uniform through security, then find the first bathroom afterwards to ditch out of it.

Sometimes I put my uniform on and carry a tube of Crest back and forth through security just to antagonize the TSA...

If you really want to antagonize them, put a turkey sandwich in a blender and carry it through... :p
