Looking for advice with ASA
 

I was looking on ASA's website and saw their minumums have reduced greatly, unfortunately I still do not have the minimum hours. Currently I have 420 TT 14 multi. I graduated from Western Michigan University's flight program and read they do offer reduced hours for western grads, so is it worth it to send in my resume? I do plan to build up more multi time soon. They also want you to have an FCC license what exactly is that and how do I get it? I appreciate the help.

well you need 50 multi the fcc website will get you to the radio license that you need as far as the company goes the pay is very low and the future is questionable go in knowing what you are getting in to

They are stiff on the 50 multi, and the500TT if oyu dont have a CRJ transition course under ur belt, I have my interview Mon, Tues...Ill let yo know how it goes....search the threads on here as to how u get ur FCC license, I got mine a couple weeks ago for $60, its a piece of cake, just fill out the form, takes 20 min. Good luck , get the multi and you should get a call.

Don't know if this individual works for ASA but I do. While their first year pay is considerably low the rest of there pay is on par or above average depending on the equipment. And as a note when our contract is finished we will be on par/above average but thats a constant uphill battle. As for their future its all speculation, nobody know what will really happen with the company. On a positive note they have been around since the late 70's and are still here. I think ASA is harder to destroy then what people think (maybe thats because the only people that talk about ASA are people that work elsewhere......)

I've been thinking of sending my resume to ASA as well.. but I've been delaying cause I don't have the 500TT yet. However, I'm a recent grad from ERAU (They posted the 'variable hiring mins for ERAU grads) and I've surpassed their Multi requirement. My hours are: 418/59. Would it hurt to fire my resume over to them now?

My general philosophy: apply to everyone regardless of what time they are looking for. It's how I got the call a long, long time ago. Most of the new hire classes right now are in 300-400 hour range, and they are having trouble filling them. They seem to be firm mostly on their ME time. Just make sure you can hack it on Ramen noodles for a year.
I agree with mohaupt on ASA's future. Most other regionals are having so much trouble filling their own flight decks, I don't know how they are going to account for ASA's 200+ flights a day if they were to go away.

I know of quite a few recent ERAU grads that instructed at Riddle for a semester or two and ASA basically stole them and ran! With or without the time. heck, you and I probably know each other.

I was told that they are stiff on the multi time also. To my understanding it can go one way but not the other..........no matter how much SE time you have you still need the 50.........however.....you can add your multi time to your total time and as long as that is 500 you are good to go. Multi time in the hiring guys eyes is worth double I guess. So....if you have 400TT with 250ME.....add the TT to the ME (400+250) and you are well into their mins. This isn't advertised but heard from a very credible source. That being said....the average is still around 800-1000hrs in new hire classes. There are a few people that are below 500 in just about every class. It never hurts to send a resume.

just FYI...

I got phone screened today by ASA.. they liked what they saw on my resume except for the fact I had no Glass-Cockpit time. TOld me to fly some Glasscockpit stuff and send in my resume again.

They want to see that you've flown equipment with a tape measure Airspeed and Altimeter. He told me it was so you don't come in and fail your sim ride and screw yourself over for future interviews. They WANT you to pass the sim and get hired. They dont want to waste your time and call you to ATL just to fail the sim and put yourself into a bad place for your next job interview..

i think your hours were probably what made them say that. Hell ya never know... but their published mins are much higher.

They did the phone screening with me and was more than willing to offer an interview. I have no glass time but my times are over ASA minimums so I agree with HercDriver.After you get above the mins reapply and Im sure they'll give you a shot.

Give Microsoft Flight Sim X a shot. The panel setup is the same, and it operates very closely. I used it to practice for my ride...and look at me, I'm living the dream. (in a flea bag motel):mad:

Keep getting your hours, i got on this week w ASA andIm pumped about it....I start Sept. and cant wait.....they need good people and theres opportunity there, short if no reserve and not long on the upgrade....never furloughed and very profitable,,, lets hope they resolve their contract...I highly reccomend them if youv e got the flight time... good luck!!

Low time guys: please make sure that you will pass training don't just assume that you will.

I say go ahead and apply, it can't hurt anything, they were stiff on the multi when I applied (I had 43 and when I got hired they said I had to have 50 before the class date) but now they are getting more lenient, A friend of mine talked to the guy in charge of hiring and he said he would hire people from That certain flight school with only 25, maybe they will do the same for western mich.

:)I meant the 200 flights that might get out on time! :)
