The old switcheroo

So I got the call to go and interview with SKW after being at my regional for around 7 mo. Now that it comes down to it I am a little unsure if I should go partially because of the loss of seniority and the upgrade that -if current numbers hold up, will come available in about 6 months, but mostly because I am unsure how the next possible employer will view leaving a company after such a short time. Commuting is hell and I am tired of doing that. Going to SKW will eliminate the commute, but I could also move where I am at now and get the upgrade sooner. I know this is kind of a crystal ball question, but what do you guys think? I was once told to go to a regional that you could live with for a long time, because that might happen to you, and SKW fits that description.

Besides the commute, what makes your current job horrible? I don't think anyone likes commuting...will that improve your QOL? With a quick upgrade, (hopefully) decent pay is around the corner...

I agree with the sentiment that go to a regional you can live with...but I don't think you've tried living with the one you're at now? What else is horrible about it...the grass isn't always greener....

I really like the job that I have now. The only thing that I don't like is the commute. Thats pretty much it. SKW has a junior base where I am from, and it would be cool to be able to live there, instead of commuting and living nowhere.

Are you single? I'd take the upgrade and move into the base if I had no wife or kids...starting over sucks and if your goal is a major, the quicker and more PIC time the better.

I'm single, so the move is not a big deal. So guess it is a question of QOL over career move.

But you just said the only reason your QOL sucks now is because you commute. Live in domicile and there will be no problems...you can find a decent crash pad for a temporary place and then maybe look into going into an apartment with some buddies.

You could have both...what city are we talking about?

SKW in SLC. I don't really care for STL too much because I really enjoy the mountains (fishing, hiking, camping, skiing etc.) and I'm not a die-hard Cardinals or Rams or Blues fan. And I'm not a fan of being mugged on the way to the airport either.

Were you dumb enough to drive through north St. Louis at 2am or something?

soon2bfo 07-31-2007 09:23 PM

If you end a trip at 2:00 AM it is kind of unavoidable unless you want sleep in the crew room and wake up with bug bites.
