What ever happened to Go! ?

What ever happened to that cheapass piece of crap operation JO set up in Hawaii?? I have not heard a mention of them on the forumn in a long time.

blastboy 08-01-2007 09:13 PM

Don't know. I hope they kicked the bucket.

The Hawaiians are too dedicated to Hawaiian and Aloha to let a Haole like JO get a peice of the action in the islands. They want Go! to pack their bags and get the ******* out of town. The only people riding on Go! are the tourists.

blastoff 08-01-2007 09:54 PM

Was in Hawaii last month, they're still there.

Go! is still in business and are hanging in there. They continue to offer cut-throat fares and are giving local carriers a run for their money. Round trip inter-island fares that were once in excess of $200 at times are offered at $9 one-way.

And it's the low timers with no other options because they are to impatient that go to Mesa and keep this company going (along with TSA, Pinnacle, and Go Jets)

RightSeatDude 08-02-2007 04:41 AM

Woo hoo! Another whiny Mesa thread that is of no consequence and not constructive in the least- and started by a glider student no less!!

Bwahahahahahahahahahaha!!

You're scary looking, rightseatdude.

To answer the original question, Go! is still there, and still charge super-low fares. I believe they are losing money hand-over-fist, and am not sure what the business plan is...

- Drive Hawaiin or Aloha out of business?

- JO might think Go! could be an effective tool to use against the mesa pilots for their contract negotiations...since it's a money-loser, JO could suddenly shut it down at a key time and scare the junior pilots into giving concessions.

Look who's talkin' :D

Finally... some objective talk. I have heard JO say (on his weekly message) that "we" can afford to take a loss in Hawaii for quite some time. "We", meaning, well, you know what the repercussions of that are. I believe he's there to drive Hawaiian and/or Aloha out of business, but I seem to recall some alliance with a major mainland carrier that may make that more difficult. Agree on the negotiations thing, I can hear it now- "well, we're losing money in Hawaii, so you gotta take this contract or we'll have to send planes to China. Between the junior pilots and our spineless union, I have little doubt JO will triumph in the next contract negotiation.

I don't understand how JO is able to get away with those kinds of prices. That is pretty much predatory pricing.

I haven't seen the prices yet. Going to look, but what have you guys seen?

Foxcow 08-02-2007 08:56 PM

The practice of predatory pricing is what I was referring to. Go is a small, wholly owned cog in the infamous MAG machine. Ticket prices at Go do not even come close to covering the airlines expenses but thats ok because Go is being subsidized by the rest of MAG. MAG is large enough to absorb any losses incurred by Go effectively killing the local competition in Hawaii.

texaspilot76 08-03-2007 07:58 AM

I have met several senior Mesa pilots and they seem like great guys. I got stuck in Mexico on non-rev travel and a Mesa captain was ferrying an airplane back and offered me a ride to get me back. They seem like great guys. So, the questions are:

Why would good pilots stay at such a poophole place? Most of them have enough time to apply at the majors. Why don't they get out of there? There's so many other places that are hiring.

If this JO character is causing so many problems and people hate him so bad, why doesn't the board get rid of his sorry ***? Disgruntled employees lead to low productivity. If he is the reason for the low moral, he needs to be disposed of.

When it comes down to it, all the board cares about is the bottom line. With all this expansion in China coming up MAG is doing the board is probably pretty happy as long as their stock keeps going up.

The alliance is United Airlines with Aloha...

Common, rightseatdude, give the guy a break, eh. He's just curious what the current events are. The man's simply trying to keep tabs on the industry, that's all.

!!RIGHT ON!!

FliFast 08-03-2007 08:29 PM

The good thing with GO is that they will lower air fare for inter island travel in Hawaii, thus making the revenue per passenger (RASM) lower. Once again, paycuts and furloughes will be mentioned at Aloha and Hawaiian.

It will be kinda neat to see, local aviators that live in Hawaii and want to go to work for Hawaiian or Aloha, watch as their hometown airlines falter and become shells of an airline. When the furloughes and the paycuts hit these two great airlines, JO will be proud he has gutted yet another revenue sector of air travel and many great professionals that grace the skies of the Hawaiian Islands are replaced with Mesa minimum wage jets.

Long Live Ornstein... helping pilots to become minimum wage slaves.

Overnitefr8 08-03-2007 08:36 PM

Don't know anything about the airline, but when/if it goes under, will the paint on the airplane GONE on the last flight? :)

That would be a sight! Hey, maybe I can do a little something with paintshop on a rainy day. :D

ExperimentalAB 08-04-2007 08:38 AM

Can anybody break JO's legs??

Just an idea LoL

SharkAir 08-04-2007 08:46 AM

What I had heard (from a semi-credible source, I think) is that somebody at Aloha, maybe Hawaiian, had spurned an offer of his for regional service, and JO was so irritated that he made it his mission to put whichever airline it was out of business. So my understanding is Go was set up purely out of spite, with money being no object.
