Default FO's -- Medical

Do most of the companies allow FO's to get a 1st Class Medical once a year... and let it "float" down to a Class II for the second 6 months? Or, do they require the FO's to get a Class I every 6 months?

SkyWest: Yes
Mesa: Yes

Other than those, I don't know for sure, but I'd imagine it's the same.

At American Eagle we were required to get a 1st but then let it lapse to a 2nd. they then changed the policy to allow you to just get a 2nd if you were and FO. My current company allows you to get a 1st then let it lapse to a 2nd. So in my experience that seems to be the standard.

yep, same @ TSA, first to a second...but i do believe we're required to get a first to begin with...even for the interview, i believe i had a first class that wasn't current, but they said it was "ok" because it was issued as a first...but i think the company actually wanted a "current" first...and was letting it slide.

if you live anywhere near NJ theres a great doc that all the philly based guys and mil reservists go to and his cost is very reasonable too, so you could keep the first class up if you wanted to. Dr. Sandman

No US carrier could require an FO to get a medical twice a year...it would be REAL hard to beat that lawsuit. The only exception might be an FO who has to perform PIC duties for whatever reason (relief pilot maybe?)

A second class is all that is required for an FO.
