Comair Base?

Can someone explain to me why Comair will not or can not open a base in ATL?

Why would we open ATL? That is ASA territory. They would open BOS before ATL.

atpwannabe 08-04-2007 08:07 AM

Why?

I know that ASA is based in ATL and from what I can remember is now a part of Skywest which is based out west somewhere. With that in mind, it would seem that Comair would follow its parent company to its two largest hubs. JMO.

All the DCI carriers go where Big Brother tells them to. Comair will go to ATL when DL wants to get pay cuts from SW/ASA. After all, that is how CHQ and SW got to CVG.

I've been away for a little while, so help me out. All of the DCI carriers are still CA, CHQ, SKW & ASA? Correct?

I know that things change in this industry like the wind changing directions. My questions are not flamebait. Jus tryin to catch up.

I purposely spent time away from the "forum" and anything to do with aviation to get a clearer direction of what I really wanted to do. I didn't want to make a $53K mistake @ ATP. It's obvious what my choice was. I've done some reading of the other threads trying to catch up, so bear with me guys.

UAL: They could but California in general, and LAF and SFO in particular, have full-on socialist labor laws. For this reason alone, SKW keeps as many crews out of Cali as possible, and the ones that are based there are mostly in more conservative rural areas. This is why SLC crews get to visit Cali so often...

DAL: Due to scope language in their UAL contract, SKW cannot operate a DAL base at any United hub (LAX & SFO).

ghilis101 08-04-2007 05:59 PM

how is the SKW base in ATL doing? Any bitterness from their ASA brethren?

SharkAir 08-04-2007 06:19 PM

They ought to fix that UAL contract language. Isn't the ball kind of in SkyWest's court anyway? It just seems odd to me that LAX is a big base for both Delta and United, and SkyWest does considerable business with both, and yet no LAX lines. I'm probably just bitter because I live nearby.

The UAX contract language prevents a DCI base in LAX, but it's the california labor laws that prevent a LAX pilot base to support the UAX flying.

And UAL is very much in the driver's seat on ANY UAX contract, lol. It's their way or the highway...
