AWAC info

Whats the story these days? Need pilots? Hiring per month? Class dates? Anyone interview recently?

Fellow instructor of mine sent in resume, got called, interviewed, and hired all within about 3 weeks.

Sent my resume in 4 weeks ago - haven't heard nuthin.

bizzum 08-08-2007 12:10 PM

Last word is 8-12 per class, 2 classes per month, and no word on stopping that pace any time soon. Send your stuff in, you should hear something.

freefall 08-08-2007 12:26 PM

Squawk: was there any difference between your times and your co-workers?
I just sent my stuff to a friend that works there. HR should get in the next day or two. I guess we'll see what happens?
Bizzum: Do you fly for them? How do you like if you do?

Freefall, what are your times? If you have the 125 multi you will most likely hear something in the next week or so. I've been there a little over a year, about as good as it gets at the regional level---assuming your not commuting from 2 timezones away. Hiring ~20/mo., and losing about that many pilots/mo. due to attrition.

Good company to work for overall. Where do you live?

Squawk_5543 08-08-2007 12:46 PM

My buddy got hired w/ around 550/60...which surprises me. I'm about the same TT but I applied w/ 115 multi. Not sure what logic is behind it all.

freefall 08-08-2007 12:48 PM

I've got 560/145 multi. It seems like a great place to work. I'm in Tampa right now but my wife and I really want to move up to the DC area. We have a lot of family and friends there.

I also work at AWAC, I like it...good pay and work rules, ~3 yr upgrade, with those times you would get an interview. Tampa to PHL would be an easy commute, or so I hear. DC is expensive, especially on 1st year pay. Good luck

freefall 08-08-2007 01:21 PM

I hope I get one. DC in very expensive but I'm lucky that my wife makes the big bucks :D There's no way we could do it on what I would make. Tampa is nice but it's time to move closer to family.

BoilerUP 08-08-2007 03:22 PM

Hiring is projected at 28/month...

Didn't they used to feed UAL out of DEN?

No. United used to provide passengers to AWAC and we brought them to their final destination. They closed the link in the chain.

Just kidding. Sort of.... :D

AWAC is not bad. Probably like all the other so-called 'regionals' out there. That said, I would recommend a couple of other carriers before AWAC unless you live near one of the domiciles or have a good reason to work here.

But we do have a lot of good people here and the flight dept., maintainance and training are tops. We think we have it bad until we are told about some of the crap that goes on at other carriers. Yesterday in PWM I saw a United Express crew camped out in the lobby of the hotel. Someone dropped the ball. Our manuals are always up to date. Not the case at every other contract 'regional' carrier.

If I were starting over I would not hesitate to focus on ExpressJet and Skywest. You can for sure do worse than AWAC, but I think you can do better too.

UAL Express in PWM was most likely GoJet....so there's your sign :D.

GAPILOT36 08-12-2007 06:43 AM

Bizzum, I sent my resume in 2 weeks ago with 905/138, and no call....Whats the deal? are they backed up or what? I know they want pilots but must not be to desperate! Thanks

They will get to yours. They have gotten a ton of resumes lately, with those times you will get a call.....just be patient!

freefall 08-12-2007 08:02 AM

GApilot36, Let us know when you get a call. I sent mine in last week. I'll do the same.

Didn't want to say so......

Actually, I only saw 3 crew members. But still, sucks to not have a room. Prolly the hotel's fault though.

I was hired at XJT, AWAC, and SKYWEST and don't regret my decision to come to AWAC at all. To each his own---do your homework, and come up with your own decision. Good luck!

GAPILOT36 08-12-2007 04:35 PM

Thanks Bizzum, hopefully I will get the call sooner than later, unfortunately I am in a time frame bind so hopefully I will get a call this week....FreeFall I'll let you know as well.

I got hired a year and a half ago with similar stats...send a new resume via internet and fax every 2-3 weeks until you get a call!

I just got an email from Aviationinterviews.com about their job fair in ORD on Aug 25th. The chief pilot and 2 recruiters will be there. Might be worth the trip.

On a side note, ALPA has had a grievance against AWAC about our 2003 concessionary contract. We just found out the next phase will take 30-60 days to complete. The arbitrator will then render a decision. (most likely before the years end) ALPA is seeking full back pay, interest, and a snap back to the preconcessionary contract. Who knows what the arbitrator will award, but it's a step in the right direction!!

Air Wisconsin Airlines Corporation
Tina Arkens (Recruiter)
Sara Tilkens (Recruiter)
Bob Frisch (Recruiter) ... Chief Pilot

Went to the job fair today. Definitively worth the trip. Got an interview and offer with AWAC. Seems like a great company.

I got the Sept 3rd class. Anyone else in the same class?

Tips for getting ready for class....Other things to bring or get that would be nice to have?

skull 08-26-2007 05:18 AM

Freefall,

Could you provide some details regarding the interview?

Thanks a lot

Skull

Hey congrats on getting the job freefall! I interviewed last wed. in ATW and got the sept. 3rd class date as well. Looks like we'll be drinking water from a firehose together for the next few weeks. My old instructor has worked with AWAC for about a year and a half now, and he sent me a 3 page email with information about what to bring/expect, ect... I don't think I can get messages on this site, but if you're interested you can email me at [email protected], and I'd be happy to forward it to you.

freefall 08-26-2007 09:58 AM

It was basic, HR stuff, what kind of leader are you? What would employer say about you, ect. Tech, know your equipment, and Capt blows is about to blow through the ILS, what would you do? Be yourself and make sure they know how bad you want it. Good luck

Wags: e-mail sent

DLAJ77 09-09-2007 07:58 AM

sent my stuff in about a week ago...how long should i expect to get a call back from them. Is there any other way i should send my stuff

Not at all...you *might* get ORF initially but should be able to hold PHL by the end of training, or maybe a month afterward.

I do think most newbies are going to PHL lately, though.

I live in ORF and might like to stay if I could get on with AWAC. What is the ORF base like, trip wise...? good, bad, ugly? Big, small... growing, shrinking? Junior, senior, both seats?

ORF is not a bad base. It is a maintainance base and supposedly that means cruddy trips. But I didn't notice that they were really cruddier than anywhere else.

However, I was a senior F/O and got what I wanted. I think for junior people it was a bit different. But it will be anywhere. We don't have tons of great trips as far as commutability goes at any of the bases.

If you are from ORF it is a no-brainer in my eyes. Try to go to AWAC and try to get ORF. Living at home in this business is priceless and frankly worth a lot of grief in other areas. In terms of 'regional' airlines, AWAC is no worse than many others and in some ways is better. They all have their ups and downs. But if you can find a decent one (And AWAC is certainly that) and can live at home in domicile that should be your top choice.

Just my opinion.

DLAJ77 09-10-2007 09:30 AM

just got a call from air wisconsin for an interview. going to DC on the 18th anybody else going to be there.
