Resume Question

I am planning on sending in my resume to asa in the next few weeks and I have a few questions:

1. They accept applications via e-mail, so do I send it as an attatchment, and if so, what type of attachment do they prefer (word document, pdf, etc.)

2. Is it a good idea to send a cover letter with the resume?

3. Is there anything else that I need to send with the resume such as copies of my medical, FCC, passport?

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I haven't been able to find this info online. Thanks.

I don't work for ASA, but I applied with them a long time ago, and all you have to do is e-mail them your resume. Word format is usually preferred. Good Luck!

When I sent mine to them in May, I attached my cover letter and resume as a pdf document. Dont send them copies of anything with your cover letter and resume, they will call you and phone screen you if you meet the min quals. If that goes well, they offer an in person two part interview over the phone in ATL. From there, you get the huge packet with stuff to fill out and your ticket to ATL. I took a job elsewhere, so I cannot comment on the interview process at ASA, good luck!

It's ALWAYS good to send a cover letter with your resume.

If they don't specify the format they want submissions in, send in either word doc or Adobe PDF.

I'd also send a cover letter or include the text of your cover letter in the email. Personally I like to do both combined in one file as a pdf, but then also attach a resume as a word document.

One more question to add about ASA, Ive asked this on a couple of different threads and can not seem to get an answer. What all is covered during the phone screening? Is it tech questions, or is it just a way to see if you have the right personality for the company?

Be prepared at all times.

You might want to think about applying to SkyWest vs. ASA. Environment at ASA is terrible.

According to ASA's President, Bryan LaBrecque, the morale is at a record low and pilot attrition is at a record high, over 18% this past year. (They are rapidly becoming another MESA). This comes from their Earnings Call.

I was asked about my driving record, criminal record, FAA record, etc... he picked off a few things from my resume and asked me about the type of flying I had done, questions about the B727/A300/DC8 sim and class time I had from an internship. Asked about my education, why I chose to apply with ASA and when I could come down for an interview. There were more questions asked but I cant remember all of them, the phone interview lasted about 20 minutes. I asked lots of questions, if I were you, I would be prepared with a list of questions to ask your interviewer when he/she calls as it shows you have a sincere interest in the company and working for them.

As stated above, be prepared for anything during the phone interview, they literally could ask you anything. Basically, they are just seeing if your personality fits with the business culture at the airline and whether or not you seem like the type of person that would fit in and be liked as well as uncovering any disqualifying criminal/FAA history.
