Ties

This is how bored I am. What kind do you guys wear on the line? The good old fashioned tie looks better than clip on. The obvious issues are the ring around the collar and the chance of it becomming a noose. Clip-ons are easy to remove once the door is locked, come off if they snag on something or somebody grabs them, but they're clip-ons. Then we have zipper ties. I guess these are the best of both worlds...

What do you guys think?

Zip tie...mostly due to the potential (even if unlikely) safety hazard of a conventional tie.

All ties look exactly the same. It's a piece of cloth hanging from your neck. Who cares how? Go with cheap and comfortable. I used clip ons for years and took it off as I sat down in the cockpit. Now I'm trying the zipper tie. Expensive, but OK. It's still hanging there from my neck during flight and I got food on it on my last trip. I'll go back to the clip on when I done with this zipper tie.

Wait...I thought that's why we wear ties: to keep "crew meals" off of our shirts. :)

Don't zip ties have the same safety setbacks as the full fledged ties? That's why I thought clip ons were better, if you pull on it it doesn't pull your neck.

Yeah, zip ties are just as bad as normal ties once they are on your neck...they're just easier to put on in the morning.

Normal ties look better, but I wear a clip-on for safety so rotating machinery or terrorists can't strangle me with it. My pants and shirts are slightly large to allow freedom of movement too.

I just wear a normal tie and never "untie" it (just loosen it enough to slip over your head). Best of both worlds as long as you don't have a big a$$ head.

I actually own both the normal ties and a ziptie. Honestly, i don't think most people notice what type of tie we're wearing as pilots, as they see us so quickly that it makes no difference. We notice them becaue the guy sitting next to us is probably taking it off, or loosening it, at some point during the flight, etc.

I've actually be wearing my normal tie recently because the "knot" looks much nicer on it than the zip tie that i own, so that's my only complaint on the zip, for safety the only one that's truely beneficial would be the clip.

I have thought about clip on ties, but I do not button my top button on my shirt.
I must be buying my shirts in the wrong neck size, I feel like I am going to choke, so I use the trad tie to keep my colar closed

That and it's easier to make "layover soup" with a clip-on. Just soak it in a cup of hot water & you're good to go.
