Default Republic, SkyWest

As far as living in DEN, which company would make more sense? How soon would I be able to hold DEN at either one and what would be a better option with regards to QOL and schedules, etc. The E170 looks pretty nice, but I'm wondering if the ability to get DEN or COS easier would be a determining factor. How senior is DEN or COS for SkyWest? How about DEN for Republic?

Thanks again for the help guys.

DEN is going to be pretty senior at Republic. As it stands at this moment, the most junior person out there was hired 5 months ago and there are many more behind him waiting to go out. On the low side, I'd guess 7 months to even get out to DEN for someone hired today.

Thanks for the quick reply Kilo. I have heard from a few people even in the interviews that they wanted DEN and I get the feeling that I would be commuting to IND or somewhere else for a long time before I could hold DEN.

Speaking as a voice from the inside, what do you think the chances are of holding DEN as a captain an any time in the future? I would assume that is going really senior as well. Maybe 3 or 4 years? With so few airplanes and being the furthest west base for them, it seems like a lot of people want that base and there are not enough spaces to give everyone that.

I really don't want to guess on upgrade time and holding Denver; just too many variables. Maybe someone else will take a stab at it.

Any idea where those ten 170s are going for United? I'm guessing it on the east coast somewhere. It seems like Republic has the market already there with the bases they have unless they are thinking of expanding their DEN fleet to include an agreement with United... I guess that is a ways off in the future and who really knows. Its anyones guess I suppose.

I'm a little concerned about the DEN based disappearing in the future as Republic changes their structure or its not working out with Frontier. And then I would be left with what, IND as the closest base to DEN?

The Frontier stuff will be around for a while. The United planes are going to the Shuttle certificate. That is where we fly for United on the 170. As for the base for those 170s, who knows.

Personally, I'd look at the quality of life and upgrade time for your new carrier. Keep those based in Denver on the top of your list and put those with a one leg commute just below them. Avoid anything to do with IAH, EWR and ORD and you'll most likely have a pretty easy commute. It's okay to shoot for a Denver based carrier. However, if you look for a company based solely on a domicile, you'll be very disappointed if they decide to make a change and move your aircraft to a new, less desired, domicile.
