How to you guys get to/from crashpad?

I'll be getting a crashpad soon, not sure yet where bids haven't come out, and was just wondering how you other guys get around. I know commuting isn't the most fun but right now it's me only option.

Depends, some guys have a crashpad car. Others just use a hotel as a crashpad. I had the distinct benefit of being in a crashpad located right next to a hotel and they let us use their airport van service for an extra $18 a month. In lieu of all that...public transportation.

If you only need a room 2-3 a month, just get a hotel.

If you do need a pad, transportation depends on the local. In some places public transport will do, but the schedule may be minimal or non-existant late at night and early am. This can be a problem on reserve, Cabs may be very hard to get at certain times also.

I've always found it easier to have an airport car...any beater will do if it runs OK.

The one I stayed in was a 15 minute walk from the aeropuerto.

I've got the ugliest Civic you've ever seen...but it sits for a month and starts right up!

I just secured a crash pad in an upper midwest domicile. I'll be on reserve the first month, so it's almost necessary to have a crash pad. For now, I plan to take the bus (the bus stop is three blocks from the crash pad, and it's about a 10 minute bus ride to the terminal from there). Some of the guys have cars, but I can't justify the cost of buying an airport car or driving mine all the way out from the west coast. I figure the bus is fine for now, but when the snow starts falling, I may move to one of the hotels that has a 24 hour airport shuttle and is closer to the airport, especially if I am off reserve and only staying 3-4 nights a month there. If all else fails, I plan to take a taxi, the crash pad is so cheap I could take a taxi 10 or 15 times and still come out way ahead of staying in a hotel while on reserve.

Be careful...taxis may not be available on short notice during the wee hours, on Friday/Saturday nights, on major travel days, or after major sporting events.

I knew some guys who had a crash pad within walking distance(even in the snow) of an airport park & ride. They tipped the drivers a buck each way & never had any difficulty hitching a ride. If this is an option for you, I'd ask the lot manager if it was cool with them before I just jumped on.
Some hotels run crash pad rooms. Depending on where you are it could be a nice compromise between paying full fare and bunking up with more guys than you can count.

I used to live in a crashpad in STL you could walk to the employee lot, no hot bunks, free internet/cable, very clean, good ownership and really cool roomates, 140 bucks a month! I miss that place a lot!
