In my last post on AWAC, someone asked about upgrade time. Would anyone be able to answer this one for me (and ERJ135).

Almost exactly 3 years on the last 2 vacancy bids (CRJ CA ORF & PHL Res). After the 02/03 class there wasn't any hiring until 08/03 so the time to CA may shorten soon.

I am assuming with the info that you have provided, that you work for AWAC? If this is true, how is the QOL, what are the chances that I could get PHL fresh out of flight school, how are the Captains you fly with (jerks/nice), how is the company's stability, how did your interview go (from your personal experience), and...are they switching the livery to USAirways Express, or fly both UEx/USA Ex? Sorry to bombard you with a boatload of Q&A, but I am curious. I have a chance to get snagged flying a SF340 almost right out of school, but the CL-200 is my dream ship...anyways, let me know what you think.

That was one of my questions about upgrade time, if it was worth it compared to Eagle's long upgrades. Thanks for answering the question. I sent my resume a few weeks ago. They said by e-mail, they will be in touch, not sure if they are interviewing in DEC.

Ok..here goes...

QOL - is not that good if you commute right now. If you live in base you will do long 4 day trips followed by, usually, 3-4 days off. Minimum days off are 12for both reserve and line holders.
PHL base - I think that the new hire classes have been getting split almost evenly between ORF and PHL reserve positions. Just spoke with a new hire on his first day of IOE and he was going to be based at PHL.
Capts. - Most are decent enough but I think that any pilot group will have their share of a-holes that you are going to fly with...this place is no different.
Company's Stability - no such thing in aviation!!!
Interview - my interview was a couple of years ago but very relaxed. Don't remember too much more about it. Maybe someone with more recent
experience could shed some light.
Paint - They are going to have all CL65s painted in the new US Airways paint by the end of Feb. of 2006 (3 a/c have the old paint scheme). UAX ends for the RJs the end of Feb and for the 146s the end of April 2006. 146s are being retired or the lease holders have found new work for them (fire bombers, Asia, etc.)

Let your "dream ship" be the airplane that will pay you the most amount of money for your time. For some people that can be the C172.
That being said...I used to fly the SF340 and liked it a whole lot more than the CL65.

4everfo has offered great advice and you should take it to heart. The entire industry is a gamble right now. Some places are hiring (air wiskey) others are laying off (comair). It seems like a lot of new comers are looking for that silver bullett and there isn't one.

pretty much all the upgrade times driving rjs are 3 years+. Who knows where the industry will be in 6 months let alone 3-5 years. PIC time is priceless these days. even in turboprops -imagine that;) you don't wanta end up like this gal I know who was furloughed with 4000hrs rj time with just a handful of piston pic time. now she gets to wait in another rj line.

if your gonna wait in line- wait in a line that will give you the most money and the best QOL- but your gonna have the roll the dice like the rest of us.

Just had an interview with AWAC. Wondering how long to get a call if there is good news.???

How did your interview go? - just curious. Anything in particular that you studied that helped you? (ie. SIM prep, books - Gleim, 121/91 FARs...) Thanks for your help.

As long as you didn't poop yourself on the interview your pobably hired.
Relax and enjoy the holidays.

Just know your airplane and it is very important that you do the sim prep. Overall, they are very nice and make sure that you feel comfartable. I think that everything went well, but airlines are infamous for not hiring you and then not telling you why....
