Colgan Street Captains

Hey, just saw the add for Colgan hiring street captains and wondered if anyone knew what the junior captain bases were for the Saab? Is IAH junior or senior? What kind of trips are built out of IAH? Are they commutable? Thanks in advance!

What a disgrace......................

I don't know how senior it is for captains but it is fairly junior for FO's. All trips are overnights and a majority of the lines would be commutable. Just depends on where you are coming from.

Autopilot, check your PMs. Your post has been deleted. No need for name calling. Keep your posts civil and respectful or don't post. It's really that simple.

So what is the latest news with the street CA's? I got the email, signed up on airlineapps, and just landed and have a voicemail from Mike Colgan. I will return his call tomorrow, but now I'm trying to figure out if I would take the job if offered. It wouldn't pay more than what I make now, but it would be a check mark for that 121 PIC box, and it might be good since I have no 121 time at all. My long term goal is FedEx, UPS, SW...(up to 875 Jet PIC now), but I wonder if flying short hops on a SAAB Part 121 is really any better than flying at FL450, 420KTS, on 3 hour legs under Part 135? All info is appreciated

Street Captains are the lowest of the low, you will be on reserve for ever or getting the crappiest lines. The problem at Colgan is they have a lot of FOs that are not eligible for upgrade, but when they get their time and upgrade they will be senior to you.

gents, just save yourself unnecessary liver pain, and don't go to colgan!

Did'nt someone recently post that if you went to Colgan now in the Saab as an FO with about 1500 hours you could upgrad to CA in about 12 months?

You can go right now w/ 500 hours and upgrade in 12 months. You can go with 1000 hours and upgrade in 6-9 months, or you can go there w/ more than ATP mins and go straight to CA now... and there's no reserve at the moment for CAs (or FOs for that matter).

Find out how many 135 only pilots get hired at your dream job and that should let you better know your chances. There must be a dwindling supply when people are asking if its good or bad to get 121 Turbine PIC without having to be an F/O first.;)

I am 100 hrs shy of ATP mins - never worked in 135 or 121 yet.

What is some one who works at Colgans opinion on going into the Saab or Q400 with those times?

My guess is Saab do the upgrade and get PIC?

You're not going to the Q, thats certain.

You're life as a low seniority street captain here could be very painful.

With those hours you would get the Q...as an FO. Which would be crazy since you could just wait a few and walk into a street Capt job or dont wait and upgrade in real short time. The impression I got is that anyone over 1000 TT and that gives them the impression the wont crash and burn out of training is getting the Q. There seems to be a lack of regional applicants with over 500TT these days
