Telex 850?

I'm in the 145 and I'm sick of the David Clamps. I know the Telex 850 has anr with 12db of reduction; does this work with the awful wind noise in the 145, or do you still wear earplugs with them? Thanks

They work fine in the CRJ, even at high indicated AS where it gets noisy. The 12 Db ANR is a good reduction in noise, but does not provide anechoic silence...for a truly silent ride you need a full earmuff style ANR like the Bose.

I like the 850 cuz it's cheaper, lighter, requires no batteries, and cuts enough noise to eliminate any risk of hearing damage, and reduces fatigue.

If you use a battery powered unit, you lose comms when the battery fails.

I picked the 850 after trying all the available options in flight...most guys will let you try their headset for a while.

850 works great in 170. I traded in my Bose X for the Telex.

Just the answer I was looking for. I just finshed sim in the RJ, and want a something new. I wonder how well the 850 would have worked in the E120?

I have one and love it....but I use it in the CRJ. I would think that it would not be quiet enough for use in the 145. I would look into an over the ear design for the 145 to preserve your hearing.

It wouldn't.

I still have comm in the Bose when the battery fails. In fact, in my limited RJ experience, I haven't even really turned the ANR on because you don't really need it, and why waste batteries? I can't even afford batteries.

I did try it for a little while though, and you could have heard a pin drop.

where is a good place to bye one from?

Is anyone familiar with the Lightspeed Mach 1? A captain I flew with the other day had one and he had great things to say about it

Ummm, no. Hotels generally have a permanent block of rooms set aside for airline personnel...the batteries you are stealing today probably came out of the bose headset belonging to the guy who did that overnight yesterday

Ethically speaking, I only steal from hotels which charge me for internet access.

www.marvgolden.com 415 bucks new free shipping. Beats everything else I've seen other than e-bay.

Try using rechargable batteries.

Pilotpip 09-17-2007 07:51 PM

The ERJ cockpit is noisy. I've yet to fly with a captain that uses anything other than full-cover headphones.

I guess I'm strange, the DC's don't bother me that much...

I use the Lightspeed Mach 1 in the CRJ-200 (and soon 700 & 900), and it has served me very well so far. Very comfortable. My only beef with it (which I have gotten over) is that you can't just whip it on and off like a conventional headset, but that is once a leg, big deal. The ear tips do wear down, so you will have to get new ones eventually.

But so far, I love it. Very small, fits into my brain bag well.

I used the 850 in the CRJ for about a year and a half and I love it. The ANR is just enough for me. I don't find the cockpit that loud in the first place. I'm switching to the ERJ soon, so I'll be interested to see how it works in there.

I think I paid Marv $350...but I've know him for years at MYF, so maybe he gave me a local discount. I didn't ask.

Not saying they are better than the Bose, but they are lighter and much easier to carry around in my flight case. The Bose were quieter, but I couldn't fit them in my flight case.

Recently, I have noticed my ears ringing a little at night (maybe I'm just a hypochondriac); so I am considering going back to the Bose... I'll prob swap them out during my next pairing just to see if it helps.
