Default Who's Got a Current Flight Instructor Certificate?

I recently finished renewing my flight instructor certificate online (I heartily endorse the Jeppesen program, by the way), which got me to thinkin' - something I don't do very often.
How many of you have kept your Flight Instructor credentials current since you've become airline pilots? If you are keeping them current, do you do it online or via a live Flight Instructor Refresher Clinic? For you CAs out there: how many of you keep yours current based on captain's duties?

I renewed mine via AOPA. It was really easy, took only about 1-2 hrs. I was going to go up in a 172 a few months back but didnt work out, Im taking my 1st 2nd yr paycheck and going up for a good BFR. I have a buddy that wants to take some lessons, I'm going to try and fly some single engine as much as I can with the little extra cash I will be getting, well see, but I am probably never going to let it expire, last thing I want to do is go up in a 172 and do another CFI ride.............

I let mine lapse, although I wish I hadn't.

I'm not sure I want to instruct again enough to sit through the 8 hour oral.

Does anyone know what the failure rate is for new CFI's? I got it the first time but someone told me that's rare. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed so I was suprised that people failed it. I just would rather run naked down 22L making airplane noises before spending all day proving to the fed's I can teach people to fly!!

Depends on where you go. At the Fort Worth Alliance airport FSDO the FAA has over an 80% fail on the first attempt. Most of the failures are on book know how not the flying. Several people in our district go to Colorado or other area's to get theirs with designated examiners.

American Flyers as well. I've been renewing for 8 years.....too valuable and hard earned to let lapse. It's been handy because the random friend who needs a BFR and has a cool plane seems to come out of the woodwork once or twice a year.

HSLD there are other methods. I believe you can take an AOPA sponsored class. Also you can go pick up an MEI or CFII to add-on. If you know your stuff no oral should be 8hrs. You 777 guys though.... better pack a lunch
