Default Turbine PIC

I have a quick question for the group. I have a buddy who flies for one of the many FDX caravan contractors. Therefore she has a sh*t load of PIC turbine time, albeit single engine.

So is it, turbine time is turbine time, regardless of one or two engines.

Let's try and stay focused, I understand the difference between muti and single, etc, etc.

What do you think your airline would say to her with times like this:

TT - 4200
SE - 2750
ME - 1450
PIC - 3900
Turbine (TP) SE - 1800
Turbine (TP) ME - 300

I just don't really know how to answer the question.

Do you think there would be a bias based on the SE vs ME turbine time.

Thanks
Marc

The ONLY reason that airlines accept SE TPIC is because they want to make sure they can hire F-16 pilots (the AF has a whole lotta F-16's).

A Caravan is not accorded the same level of consideration as an F-16. Unless your friend knows somebody, she probably needs some 121 TPIC. RJ would probably be better than turboprop.

FWIW, I flew with an FO a few years ago who was new to XJT. He had 5K-6K SE turbine in an Air Tractor. His sole purpose for coming to XJT was to check off the 121 experience box. Low and behold, he was here for 18 months before he went to SWA.

Awesome. I knew that otter time would pay off one day.

All in all it depends on the carrier. EX Alaska requires TPIC in ME aircraft unless it is specifically SE high performance Military Aircraft.

I think it all depends on where they want to go. ME TPIC is always more valuable. But SE TPIC is better than none at all like me.

I heard or read somewhere that too much SE time (piston) is bad for your resume. Can anyone confirm the accuracy of this statement?

There is no such thing as bad flight time. But if it is really lopsided it is possible that they may ask about it in an interview. If you say that you wanted to instruct and liked your job for 5 (or more) years and are now ready to move on to something bigger I don't see any problem with that at all. And I don't think any airline would see a problem with that either.

As far as the above mentioned times, they will be great for a regional job. But for a major that candidate would have to get some more substantial ME time.

I don't think it's ever bad, but after about 1500 hours any additional SE time is useless for airline purposes (unless it's in a viper).
