Awac?

Hey everybody, so I was offered a job at AWAC with a class date of Oct. 15th. I know one guy who is in my class is there anyone else? Also how long is reserve right now? What the junior bases look like? Thanks and can't wait to start.

mccube5 10-03-2007 05:52 PM

from what i heard guys going to orf are holding a line just about off ioe. the most senior guy in the class that just finished sims going to dca should hold a line sometime in december.

this is second hand information, someone will correct me if im wrong.

wi_pilot 10-03-2007 07:00 PM

I'm in Indoc right now. ORF and DCA seem to be readily available. Philly might be a little harder to get right out of class.

Aviatormar 10-03-2007 07:06 PM

Nice, how is training going? Hard? Is there anything I should be studying that will make it easier? How are the instructors?

Pilotdude3407 10-04-2007 04:36 AM

I am in the middle of SIMS right now and everyone that has ORF in our class is holding a line. I am going to DCA 12/1/07 and I am probably going to be not only on reserve but ready reserve so go figure. Indoc will be fine if you don't take it for granted. If you do, it will burn you so fast you won't know what hit you. Same with systems. Really easy if you just do what you are supposed to do. And sims....haha, if you do not know your crap inside and out when you get in there, it will eat you alive. I have been burned two days in a row in that thing and I was solid on all of my stuff before I got in there. Our instructor is good though, he is really sticking it to us. If we are doing good, then he does stuff to stress you out and make you think you are behind or gives you something to make you sweat...but it will help come checkride time. Good Luck to you, and have fun with it.

Aviatormar 10-04-2007 09:44 AM

Ohh good god, go yanks, your so foolish it's not funny

900ish and 150ish multi,

But don't apply, I hate yankees fans

Wait for it

that was a joke in case you didn't know, its seems to be a good company

Since you don't get any company material until your first day, there really isn't a whole lot you can do to prepare. Read the FAR/FC a bit if you want. Otherwise, just enjoy yourself until class. Once you get here, it's all business.

good god i hate the red sox...

nah still gonna apply... it seems like a great company to work for eventually... alas i am still one of those low timers.

Aviatormar 10-04-2007 07:49 PM

that's great man, you should apply, it's a great job. Your choice of teams to root for leaves much to be desired, but atleast you can pick an airline.

Quick question, is there ground school on the weekends?

expediteplease 10-04-2007 08:23 PM

No ground school on the weekends unless you want to go in during systems and go through the lufthansa slides some more. As said before, don't take indoc for granted, the tests aren't easy. Have fun, I think I know one guy who is starting in your class also.

Aviatormar 10-05-2007 04:49 AM

sweet, thanks for the update man

AWAC is the Place to Be!

GO YANKEES!!!!

P.S. - Anyone heard anymore about the PHX Base rumor? New Hire FA's are sayin that their Instructors told them about a PHX base...and Ive heard a few people mention it.

FSUpilot 10-05-2007 09:00 AM

I have been looking at AWAC for a long time and I have talked to many folks in recruiting and who work there. I think it is the best place for me... I seem kind of drawn to it. Plus the PHL base would be nice, the girlfriend only lives 10 minutes from there.

Even though I have only 250tt and 70me I am still gonna give it a try. You never know what will happen. If not... its flight instructing for awhile. Please dont take this the wrong way.. I do not have some sense of entitlement for a job with a fresh commercial, I just am excited about the prospect of a dream coming true earlier than expected.

Sucks the Yanks lost the other night.

I'm new to AWAC but never heard about PHX. Could it be that we might be expanding to Midwest again? For sure I think LGA is gonna happen, and somewhere in NC, which, couple steps closer to Mets!

I have heard that rumor since AWAC started flying for USair. It would be nice to have a base out West but, I don't think it will ever pan out. Of course, I have been wrong before.
I do know this, USair and its express carriers are cutting a bunch of flights out of PIT in January. Where all of AWACs rjs end up is anybodys guess. I just hope its not LGA!!!

I think the LGA base is not as certain as it appears. Not saying it won't happen, but there are some issues there. The NYC Port Authority would like to reduce or even eliminate 50-seat or less flying out of LGA. Personally, I think there are better ways to fix LGA, but foolishly, nobody is asking me....:D

Anyway, don't count on any rumors you hear. Anywhere. But especially at AWAC. Anything that ever happens here is never rumored. And if it is rumored you can be pretty sure it won't happen.

We have PHL, DCA and ORF and I wouldn't make plans based on anything else at the moment.

FWIW, the way to fix LGA is to enforce stricter slot limits and have a Ground Metering frequency like at ORD. Or else have an inbound and outbound Ground freq. But I think just having a Ground Metering like ORD would solve a lot of the radio congestion, which is a bigger part of the total problem than some people are letting on.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming....

BoilerUP 10-06-2007 05:54 AM

LGA needs metering. BADLY. A couple months back at 10pm ONE GUY was working both Tower and Ground...took 35 minutes to get a push clearance off 7A.

An LGA domicile would save the company money in certain ways, but cost them in others. Besides, the aforementioned political pressure to reduce RJ flying is playing a role; I understand Republic and the 170 return to LGA starting in November or December. Rumor is MKE and RDU are still on the table (albeit backburner), but my WAG is nothing will be decided in ATW until after the arbitrator decides a remedy in the concessionary grievance.

Our current flying through PIT is way down anyway, and it is proposed that TSA take over all EWR flying. That's too bad...I really enjoyed flying DCA-PIT, sitting 3:45 and going back to DCA, or doing PIT-EWR-PIT-PVD and arriving 2 hours late into the RON every time...

/sarcasm

I'll miss PIT too. But frankly I'll bet it won't be down as much as people say. They are pulling flights but I think it'll be mostly mainline flights.

I don't see MKE happening unless we were to get some United flying again, something which I think is a possibility, but only longer term.

I do think there is a real chance that Mesa could really collapse and with it would come a feeding frenzy for their flying.

I had an Air Midwest (Mesa) captain on the jumpseat a few weeks ago CLT-PIT and he was saying that he is being junior manned all the time and they are paying Double Time, not just Time-and-a-Half. He was happy to do it, earning something like $130/hour to fly a Beyotch 1900.

Anyway.....

BoilerUP 10-06-2007 06:16 AM

Mainline might be closing their domicile there, but as of yet Republic has not.

TSA also has a prorate contract for their Airways RJs, so I'd guess most if not all of the PIT Express flying remaining will be REP or TSA. Methinks we might turn PIT out of somewhere...but only like a regular outstation. Guess we'll find out mid-Oct when Airways releases the schedule (per J.W.'s post on the company board).

I saw it too. Curious as to what the next few months will bring what with PIT and possible LGA changes.

Hoping for more attrition so I can get off reserve.

Being on reserve kinda sucks. But being on the left seat rocks!

Now you can get all those hot flight attendants into your jacuzzi on your yacht, and light cigars with 100$ bills.

I cant wait to upgrade!!! :D

Aviatormar 10-06-2007 08:32 AM

Hey all, how long are people sitting on reserve? How long did it take to upgrade , and t minus 7 days till groundschool, YIKES! By the way, how are the hotels and flight attendents? Decent? Basically how many beers does it take to make them 'alright'?

BoilerUP 10-06-2007 08:51 AM

Do yourself a favor - stay away from the FAs.

Dipping your pen in company ink is a real good way to get yourself fired....

Aviatormar 10-06-2007 09:15 AM

nice, thanks for the heads up, you know it's a dream to be doing that type of stuff......But still I just wanted something to look at, but I'll heed your advice, your typically right on when you say something.

Aviatormar 10-06-2007 11:07 AM

The hotels are OK. Flight attendants, well, let's just say that 'good looking and thin' is far down their list of requirements. We do have some good ones, but sure is *******, the first words out of their mouth (if the crumbs are not flying from eating doughnuts and speaking at the same time) is, "My boyfriend this...", or "My boyfriend that..."

I think Cranky Empty Nester is high on their wish list, 'cuz that's what we have a lot of.

It'll take a lot of beer to help that issue here.

Anyway, sage advice is to keep away from the company girls. Seriously. It has been an issue in the past.

Now other companys' girls? That's a whole new ballgame!! :D

Aviatormar 10-06-2007 03:49 PM

Fair enough, one shouldn't sh** where ones eats, but out of towners, PLAY BALL! Thanks saab for the info.
