In the past, Mesaba has had a training contract, and has even enforced it, although the Union stepped in and put a stop to certain company abuses (like going after furloughed pilots! Boy, that sure put egg on some corporate faces).

They still have the ability and legal right to have one now. It is possible that they might have dropped it to improve pilot recruiting (before the instant upgrades..)

I'll try to find out about this. If anyone else has the true word on this, please fill us in...

dunlaf05 10-14-2007 11:57 AM

I'm thinking this $12k contract must be for the street captains. I know I didn't sign anything that had the words/numbers $10,000 or $12,000 in the language.

Sig I'd like to see your source.

RedGuy 10-14-2007 12:05 PM

They probably make you sign it when they type you. That's probably why the FO's aren't seing it.:radar:

BlueMoon 10-14-2007 01:25 PM

has anyone gotten word on where street captains are going to be placed (base wise). I'm from dtw and wondering if it decent chance to get it.

champguy 10-14-2007 01:29 PM

Warning!!!! Newbie question.

Could low seniority CA (Street CA) be reassigned to FO as pilots with more seniority begin to upgrade?

No, they will stay captains.

I have the training contract in front of me. "I promise to make reimbrsement of any initial training costs and/or long term training costs, without interest and to the extent not deducted as provided in Section 3(d) of the Agreement, no later than ten days following my resignation or termination provided that:
* Reimbursement of Initial Training Costs in the amount of twentey one thousand dollars ($21,000) will be reduced by one-twelfth(1/12th) for each full month of employment following my completion of OE.

Is this for a Mesaba:
a. SAAB FO
b. CRJ9 FO
c. CRJ2 FO
d. SAAB Street Capt
e. all of the above:eek:

dashdriver22 10-14-2007 03:21 PM

I'm no lawyer but it looks like all the of the above, for any Long term training event. It also states: Reimbursement of Long Term Training Costs will apply only if I have completed less than three (3) years of total service with the company, and such reimbursement shall be in the amount of six thousand dollars ($6,000), reduced by (1/12th) for each full month of employment following my completion of OE for the Captain position.

There ya go! CAPTAIN position.

I'd still be interested to know where a copy of this contract is located.

dashdriver22 10-14-2007 03:28 PM

I recieved one in the training packet before ground school and I had to sign one during the interview.

I know for a fact I never read or signed anything that read like this. But I do remember them bringing it up in my interview.

dashdriver22 10-14-2007 03:49 PM

yeah I dont know what to tell you. It looks like some guys aren't signing them or there not evening giving them out. It wouldn't suprise me.

starvin marvin 10-14-2007 07:10 PM

Mine was in the interview packet, back in March... not during training.

1morguy 10-15-2007 05:05 PM

Nope, but I know an ex indy guy (not at xj)

tcraft 10-22-2007 01:18 PM

I never signed a contract. Someone tried to hand one in the first day of class and the instructor gave it back to him and told him they weren't doing that anymore. This was back in April though, things may have changed.

I guess I'm too dumb to understand the meaning - or too frightened to admit what I think it says.

Are we going to go back to the argument of whether or not people are going to start dieing when street captains are hired?

Or is this an inside joke I didn't get.......

Sorry...that's not even close to what I meant!!!

XJPILOT1 10-30-2007 11:10 AM

I was referring to the street captains themselves. Nevermind, I guess it was too inside of a jest!!!

LoudFastRules 10-30-2007 02:21 PM

I see pancakes!

::lost:: Eek!

TheProfessionalPilot 10-31-2007 05:42 PM

I am less than 3 mo's from my 23rd and I'm wondering if T-prop captains need an ATP. I dont have the reg's right in front of me. Sorry in advance for a dumb question that I've never honestly been clear about because I had never considered flying a t-flop in the past.

You need an ATP to be the PIC of an aircraft opperating under 121 and you have to be 23 to get an ATP. Turbo prop or jet has nothing to do with it

TheProfessionalPilot 10-31-2007 06:11 PM

Thanks for that. I wasn't sure if T-Prop made a difference. I couldn't remember if it said "turbojet" or "turbine"... I'm only 3 months from 23 so I'm not sure how this will play out. Would I get right-seat locked or would they just aircraft lock me if I get hired as FO but have well over CA min's?

submachXJ 10-31-2007 06:37 PM

I think the reg says a type is required for ac above 12500 or turbojet.

TheProfessionalPilot 10-31-2007 07:01 PM

AHAH! That's it! Thank you for clearing that up on this "late" evening.

TheProfessionalPilot 10-31-2007 07:02 PM

I was wondering why my company was offering King Air left seat.... that would certainly clear it up.

bustinmins 10-31-2007 09:06 PM

I'm guessing there will be plenty of VERY NICE captains for a while. Knowing that the behind they are kicking will be the one their kissing....soon enough.

:)
