I guess you are the only one who cant see that regionals such as Mesa or Gojets are scraping the bottom of the barrel in terms of applicants.
Talk to some of their captains if you want to know more about the quality of their new-hires coming from MAPD.

ok so youre frustrated about MAPD new hires but youre confusing the issue between people who successfully make it through those programs and go on to have uneventfully safe careers, and training programs (allegedly) cutting corners to get guys on the line because theyre short on first officers. These two are completely different and debatable issues and we differ on our viewpoints on them.

clearly youre alarmed about the rate of "terrible" pilots coming to regional carriers, but what do you intend to do about this dilemma?

Hey bro I WAS one and I never had a problem with the MAPD guys. When I was at my interview at Mesa years ago there were a handlful of MAPD'ers in there interviewing right along with me. In fact I was able to eavesdrop in on one of their interviews and they were asked just as tough a question as the others were who were not MAPD graduates. SO, they paid for their training at a Mesa sponsored training program but had to interview like the rest of us and FYI 2 of them were NOT hired. Thats right, NOT HIRED. Buying the job? I don't think so.
Now....I WILL agree with you that Mesa and the like are bottom feeder airlines that hopefully will be defunct soon. Its why I left. I couldn't stomach being there any longer and moved on to much greener pastures. Oh and I've run into a number of MAPD grads where I am at now (what many consider to be a solid airline) and are doing great.

yea im sorry people have resentful attitudes towards fellow pilots who in my opinion are no less capable of being rock-strong aviators.

my small airplane time in retrospect has done nothing to make me a good airline pilot. the jet time is what has mattered in terms of applicable aviation knowledge and skill. i dont rent cessna's on the weekend nor do i ever intend to set foot in of those airplanes for as long as i live, but i know there are a lof of people who still value their time spent in those planes. and thats great, and you got your experience in a different way and were great cfi's and had a lot of responsibiity. but the point is you shouldnt assume you have a superior background or discount an entire group of pilots just because they came up through a different route.

It's not so much that the alternate route is flawed (it does have certain shortcomings), it's that a certain type of individual is drawn to the alternate route...the type who doesn't particularly like people or responsibility. Airline bridge programs have more than their share of these.

The CFI route serves as a natural filter, in addition to providing real-world learning opportunities in aviation and leadership.
