Colgan PVD Base

Hey All, First time poster here.
Does anybody have news on what is happening with PVD or the northeast bases in general? I've been at colgan for about six months and have been trying to get back to MHT. I just heard through the grapevine that PVD, one of the most senior bases is closing. Anybody able to verify this, and what does the mean for the rest of the bases? How about the chances of a relatively junior FO getting MHT now?

I heard ABE closed as well, any truth to that?

Before Independence Air went out of business I heard from several people that Colgan was going to buy Independence. People are stupid.

I don't know what bases are closing soon, but plan on outstation bases slowely erroding into hub and spoke. It's a part of Pinnacle's plan for us. Colgan on the East Coast is going to look completely different a year from now.

I think PVD is going to be a Beech base until the spring, and then we'll see if it becomes a Saab base again. I could be wrong. I feel bad for those guys who live there.

Seems odd they would do that since it is already a Saab 340 base. Where is the 1900 coming from?

Too Tall 10-22-2007 11:29 AM

PVD is losing Saab lines and they are putting a beech on it because the loads aren't there. They are not closing the base yet. Not sure what the Saab guys are going to do in PVD. I don't think a beech is going to based there it will be picked up from another base. Also I don't think the Saab is completely gone but they just reduced the amount of lines. Could be wrong on that last part though.

I agree outstation basing is going bye bye.

not too good, a lot of people sucked up the Colgan lifestyle because they could "be home at night" with outstation basing.........

bigscrillywilli 10-22-2007 07:47 PM

ya hopefully colgan altogether will go bye-bye!!

I think you guys are getting a little ahead of yourselves here. We were bought buy Pinnacle Holdings Inc. and nothing is going to change. I mean, it's not like we are going to have a new President or something!! ;)

HYA crews do the PVD overnight now. ALB and HPN set to close in January for the BE190. That leaves 3 bases- BHB, AUG, and HYA.

As for as the Saab, who knows. I think PIT changes somethings around. Good luck though.

I work at PVD and use to fuel the airlines for Northstar. I can tell you that Colgan is phased out to let in Chataqua airlines and others in. Colgan was pretty unhappy with their arrangements here.

Yeah but Chautauqua aint' gonna be doing a LGA-PVD-LGA run with an Embraer anytime soon. I'm sure that would be fun though

I wouldn't put all my money in a bet against it...

How many 1900's are even left?

I believe we have 6. We are told 4 Beechs remaining in January when the other bases close. The most senior capts in the company are based at the remaining bases.

shaggieshapiro 10-23-2007 11:21 AM

I remember now, Transtates took the bulk of Colgans flights out of PVD and they use the erj-135 and the saab

I fly out of AUG so i'll be interested to see what happens with you guys. I know one captain up here is something like number 4 in the company. The rest are all relatively new.

shaggieshapiro 10-23-2007 12:26 PM

Is that hot long haired blonde lady Captain still fly with Colgan into PVD?

Yea, it would be great to see 700 flight crew lose their jobs!

You're a real winner.

Ahhhhh, "Disgusta!" Driving up the hill after a nice snow, don't miss that. DO miss Margarita's(Sp?) across from the Super 8 I think it was.
Hey, that senior Captain wouldn't be "BRAGGING" would it? Still chewing gum and popping bubbles in your ear over the intercom?:D

The one and the only.:D He's a good guy. And yes that hill completely sucks in the winter. If only they would actually plow it. I take it you flew out of here some years back.

shamrok 10-26-2007 12:30 AM

So, PVD might be closing? Thats just great, considering I took the job with Colgan to live in base with my wife and daughter here in PVD. Figures, I should have seen it coming. I am in sim right now and I didn't need a distraction like that because now I have to wonder where the heck I will end up. Looks like I'll be making the commute every week for a year. And why PVD, it's a great base? It's too bad. Any Colgan pilots based in PVD, whats the deal?

Awesome! I think I was one of the people that started that bs rumor while we were sitting bored on a wx delay in the old Ghetto gates in IAD. Amazing how things get around.

batman 10-26-2007 09:21 AM

Sorry to hear that Shamrok. I know a Saab FO based there, and they put them all TDY for the winter at other bases with ugly reserve schedules. Good news, the Beech is on its ways out so maybe its just for the winter? Good luck in training.

shamrok 10-26-2007 09:33 AM

It would be nice to see tha Saab back in the spring at PVD but who knows. I hope they plan to keep HYA and MHT around for a while longer so I can have some form of a QOL. Sim broke last night, back to back sim tonight!

alpar80 10-26-2007 12:50 PM

These forums always make me laugh. I am an FO in PVD and yes, origanally they did pull our lines from us mid-nov to put us on reserve til early march however, from what I heard they weren't going to do this. Our lines in nov consist of the latter part of the month being on reserve and next month will be back to normal. From what I heard they did this in a few different places, probably due to the lighter loads in the winter months.
