any word from AWAC lately?

I had a friend apply at AirWis about a month ago. He met the minimums however he still hasn't heard from them. Anyone else apply or get hired with them lately or heard any news?

flyerfly 10-22-2007 07:36 PM

We just got a PIF (Pilot information file) about 11 FO vacancies. Things are moving. Not quick but continouosly for now. I speculation hiring through the first of the year. On the flip side there is NO open time in DCA this month.

AWAC 10/29 Class

Hey all, I just interviewed on the 10th and was assigned a spot in the 10/29 class.

Anyone else going to be there? What is a typical class size? The welcome letter spoke about Indoc and general subjects. What do we have to look for in general subjects?

Happy to be here.:D

We are more or less adequately staffed right now. Don't give up trying though because I think we can expect continuous hiring, albeit at a not-too-fast pace.

CGreek 10-23-2007 06:11 AM

I was also hired after interviewing on the 10th!
What are your friends times???
maybe since hiring is slowing down they're getting picky on who they offer interviews to.
I'd noticed that on they day of our interview most of us had some turbine time, and even some jet time... a couple with 135 experience, and plenty of multi time.
I would just guess attrition and hiring will again pick up after the holidays.. so you should keep on trying.
just my guess

Flyboy8784 10-23-2007 07:51 AM

I was talking with the DCA Domicile Manager last week about hiring...and he told me..although the mins are still low...they are having people with 300+ multi time apply. He told me that they are gonna hire the high timers while they are still applying, then proceed down the list. Attrition has slowed down but its still happening.

If I can offer a tip....dont apply as soon as u hit the minimums...build your multi time....fly approaches as fast as you can....although the training program is being reconstructed, its still not an easy transition for low time guys. And although they will help you through if your willing to put forth the effort...they will tell you when your not doing well. And for alot of guys ive seen...negative critiques will cause a snowball effect.

Good luck to all the new hires and new hires to be!

IMO I thunk Appleton has a "knack" for looking at resumes. They never called a guy I know who had over 1500TT and 1000 121/multi turbine. And his resume was submitted by an AWAC pilot. Good guy no idea why but they never called evern though it was this summer and were "hiring" a lot.

Good luck to the new hires...look forward to seeing you, good place to work GREAT people to work with. Just take training very serious, dont just try to get by...a lot of washouts this summer.

Not the first time I hear somebody complaining about the same....
who knows what their reasoning might be......

I"m in indoc now and I can honestly say I really do like this place. Every single person I've come into contact with has been nothing but nice and caring. The instructors are first rate and the training program is great. I"m super happy to be here and look forward to being on the line.

Haha, you must have passed your first indoc test yesterday. :)

GoingdaDistance 10-23-2007 05:12 PM

WI Pilot,

How many in your indoc class?

GoingdaDistance 10-23-2007 05:27 PM

Aviatormar,

What type of flight bag did you bring for all the pubs? What seems to work the best from what you have seen?

Thanks for your help

Aviatormar 10-23-2007 05:36 PM

haha, yeah the first indoc test wasn't as easy, but I got a 92%. Most of my class did very well, and we all seem to work well together as a group which is awesome. As far as a bag they tell you to bring a flight case, which is very helpful. I had an old one that someone gave me at the airport that I flew out of. I would recommend the luggage works or crewgear.com ones, they seem pretty good (basically go get yourself a professional bag). But do yourself a favor get a bag, there sure is alot of books.

Aviatormar 10-23-2007 05:38 PM

wi pilot what class are you in, 10/1? I herd you guys had a quite a class.....hahaha

GoingdaDistance 10-23-2007 05:59 PM

Thanks!

Did you have any weekend classes? How much time are they giving you to get down to CLT?

Tigertail 10-23-2007 06:00 PM

Do you know what people are washing out the most on? I start training in a couple of weeks and I want to really be prepared...thanks!:)

Tigertail 10-23-2007 06:06 PM

To any AWAC pilots and any currently in training...anything I can do in advance to study for the basic indoc test? 121 regs? Training isn't for 3 weeks and I am looking for something to do. Also, when do you get the CFM and the flows to study?

Aviatormar 10-23-2007 07:01 PM

Listen to me, number one thing at this company is to LISTEN to your instructors. They are amazing. DO NOT try to study anything. First day of groundschool they claimed that if you studied exactly what they told you to, and not to read ahead or fall too far behind, you will pass. So far I've studied exactly what they said in class and the class powerpoints, and I've got a 92 on the first test.
Before you get here just have your basic knowledge up to date, and you'll be fine. I know that sounds strange, but don't worry about it too much. Just come to class with your head peeled open and get ready to process alot of info and you'll do fine. They are understanding and really make you feel great, which in turn, makes you do great. As far as weekend classes, in indoc there wasn't any, but I'm not sure about later training. It runs from 8 to 5 everyday, and it taught by good instructors. If anyone needs questions answered on anything, fire away and I"ll try to help out.

flyguy19348 10-23-2007 10:43 PM

I like what one guy said about studying together as a group. And listening. Not much you can prepare for just dont "assume" you know it already and sleep through class.
You will do great but its not a formality....they are testing you...

Basically do just as Aviatormar said, and you will be just fine. However, if you absolutely must have something to look at in advance then I have a couple of things you can take a look at. You'll have to let me know where to send them though because I can't PM or email you until you have 10 posts I believe. Best of luck in training!

Haha, yeah I was in the 10/1 class. I'm sure you've heard some interesting/funny things about us... we're quite loud sometimes. :) All but one of us made it to systems though.

Aviatormar 10-24-2007 03:08 PM

Nice man, that's cool. Yeah we herd some interesting stuff. How's the last test? It seems really detailed oreinted. How's systems? Anything like indoc?
