Compass info
What's the latest with Compass as far as expansion goes and what's with the PIC type right now for new hires?
|
Well, last I heard everyone is getting type's but it doesn't matter because everyone is being paid as F.O.'s so what is the type worth to ya?
We have 5 a/c....4 in operation currently.... 15 hard lines company wide...(Ca only) using the rest of the company sitting RSV and using them to fill FO seats not used for IOE. I have been here for 4 months and I'm still several month from a hard line at this rate. I got paid $450 today....thats pathetic....forget the fact that I'm an airline CA....I think those ppl at Walmart make more every 2 weeks than that.....My wife can make more than that in 2 nights waiting tables......BS! |
It looks like the word is finally getting out. I saw an email advertising a bonus if you refer someone. Must be running out of suckers in MSP.

So quit if you don't like it. Or better yet, go get a second job as a Walmart Greeter. From my understanding, you certainly have the time. No offense, but there was plenty of info posted on the boards and elsewhere about the company. Word I hear is that a grievence has been filed on the pilots behalf and back pay is probably coming. Either way, you should have known that you probably weren't going to make any better than min guarantee for quite some time since there seems to be a surplus of pilots and a shortage of aircraft. The fact is, if you took the job and expected captains pay from day one without any written agreement to that fact, you set yourself up. I don't care what RC, JK, or any other manager might have said. If it ain't in writing, you're not going to get it if you're a represented union member. The flip side is that I talk to plenty of people over there (almost daily) that have more positive outlooks that some of those posted here. Most of the people that I talk to at Compass (line pilots or otherwise) understand that it's a start up and as such, there are delays and a learning curve. Things aren't as smooth as they'd like, but they aren't bottom of the barrel either. EVERY regional that's hiring is experiencing a shortage. 90% of them are offering bonuses to either new hires or referring employees. It doesn't surprise me that they are offering "recruiting bonuses" to employees. The management at ACA did the same thing with good results. Why hire somebody off the street that you don't know when you can spend a couple extra bucks and get somebody that understands the company culture, the job, and the people because of an internal relationship? In the end, recruiting bonuses cost less money since people are more likely to stay longer, thus reducing overall training costs for new hire turnover. |
Easy Josh, don't jump to conclusions. When Xtreme was hired at CPS, he was one of the first guys on the list. At the time, there was NO info. on the boards about the pay issues and confusion regarding training schedules. You know the airlines well enough to know that irregardles of whether or not something is written down - it doesn't mean a thing. What we need to all agree on is that there was a lot of overpromising and underdelivering. You can't fault a guy for feeling cheated in that regard. We all knew we'd be getting min guarantee, but there's an enormous difference between min F.O. and min CA. There aren't just one or two people that took the bait on this one. There are many, thus being the driving force behind the large grievance. I'm not holding my breath for a speedy resolution.

I have to defend Xtreme on this one! If he quits he has a $12,000 contract over his head! We were told in our interview that we would get CA pay from day one, and getting an acceptance letter stating that not only are you a CA, but a checkairmen as well, then posting CA rates on it. To me that constitutes written proof. The first 2 classes recieved the same offer, and they did recieve everything they were promised, why would we expect anything different? That's why we are going to win the greivance, but that's awhile from now, we have families and obilgation now to take care of. It's a gut wrenching feeling to be tricked and deceived, and not be able to food on the table. As for info on the forums about this place, there was hardly any one I got hired. I don't know that many positive people hear, everybody I know are mad as hell! Perhaps the first 12 guys here are happy, because they are getting good lines and proper pay. As for Xtreme, I'm sure he's like many of us here who are polishing up our resumes and sending them out. Right now they have greivances on over 30 issues, so they have a lot of things to do to make this place right. Perhaps they will get everything resolved and this will be a good place to work, only time will tell, but in the mean time guys like Xtreme are only putting out info that can be helpful to other people.

Well there seem to be varying stories on the issue, but as I stated before, I only know what I hear from the numerous folks that I know who work for CPS. To each their own opinion.
What I have heard is that Extreme should expect to see a good sized retro check on the 13th of November (retro for IOE pay as well as CA retro from completion of IOE through the end of the month). Also retro pay should be tacked on to his first December check to cover the 1st 15 days of November. Of course that doesn't cover all of the time that was spent in training, but it's a start. If you guys really have an issue with what you feel is a breach of employment contract (particularly those of you who started before a contract was ratified), there are other ways to collect the retro pay outside of the grievance process. Remember you can always file a small claims tort, or press for legal cancellation of any employment/training agreement that you signed (or didnt) due to breach of contract on the company's behalf. |
How are they paying CAs who fly as FO. I've heard different stories as well on this one.
|
It's my understanding (from a crewmember who has done it) that pilots holding captain slots (MSP E175 CA) are paid at captain wages regardless of the seat they fly in.

Anyone left this place yet?

Everyone regrdless of proffession deserves to be told the truth and have all the details of the job they are accepting. Many ppl wouldn't have taken the job if it hadn't been for them being told in the interview they would receive CA pay. When you have family's to take care of choices have to include their care as well. do to this pay issue I don't know one pilot working for CP that didn't take a paycut coming here. True I came from a T-prop working for Mesa but I still took a paycut from $32 an hour to $23 an hour. Don't forget too that I am one of the ppl not even receiving pay for my left seat time. This seams to be more of a remote incident. Most have been receiving the pay for the left seat time. I although have over 50 hours of left seat time and have received 0 hours of pay for it. This time is spread over the last 3 months and I have been paitently waiting I think. I am not all negative, look back at my posts from about 3 months ago. although I was being paid incorrectly I believed them when they said they would make it right. However, I am like most other ppl...you can only lie to me sooo long before I no longer trust you. This problem is going to start to impact customer service if something isn't done....I hope they fix it before that happens. They had the chance to make something new here and do the right thing....they just really don't want to I guess. Once again though Josh I never meant any disrespect for you or anyone else and I am sorry for being so negative. I'm sure better days are coming...I can't wait to see them. |

Guys, was told a summer upgrade 140ish seniority number. Do you guys think this is still hold up? By my numbers, assuming staff at 5 crews per plane. Ac 28 would be my upgrade time. Ac 28 would be about when? I am taking a huge pay cut to come to compass, assuming no more delays what are your best guess on an upgrade for me? I don't think i can leave on fo pay much pass summer time.

Xtreme-
It's cool, I understand that things can be frustrating sometimes to the point of tears (there's a reason that I haven't followed friends and coworkers back to the airlines or Compass). I can certainly understand if the company isn't holding up to their end for whatever reason. Hopefully things will work out in the natural course of things in soon. From what I hear Republic/Chautaqua/<Insert other sister company of the month here> is about to hold a big bid for upgrades, which will probably only put more crunch in the hiring market. Hopefully the so called shortage of pilots we hear so much about will force companies to start increasing wages and living up to their promises. (Right... time for me to go back to my pipe dream now...) As far as Compass, I do know that it's not perfect, but I don't think it's the worst place in the world to be either. If I could only get them to start ROA-MSP service in the E175, it would be a lot closer to perfect though! (not to mention I'd buy beer for a bunch of the crews passing through!) |

this may have been answered before but is there going to be a DTW/MEM base anytime soon? or is everything going to be up there in MSP?
|
DTW base sometime midyear 2008 with MEM probably by end of 08. Flying out of each will begin well before a base opens at both locations

A good friend of mine at Shuttle said they just posted some crazy amount of CA slots over there. I think I heard like 150....or something like that. Seems like a large vacancy to me. I'm sure you will see it but I just received some of that back pay they owed me. That definately helps things on the homefront. It's hard to explain to the wife why she has to cook so much Ramen ;)

I made sure that there was no mystery why I resigned, and took it straight to the top, this e-mail is evidence of that. Best wishes to all of you.:)
