ASA and SKYW to merge pilot seniority lists!

True they are rumors, but I have my credible sources... So if we get our fourth carrier then great more planes=better schedules, and if we merge without representation we get shafted, I personally will opt for protecting myself in the event of a merger. Skyw will continue to grow with a union on property. The choice is yours....

I just have to ask the none alpa management loving people on here what they are thinking. A union is only as good as the people who run it. Who runs your union and controls what happens, YOU!!!!!! Mesa is alpa and the only reason mesa sucks is because management does not care about there contract. I have heard that they have over 700 grievances on file and each one takes about six months to solve. But on that note I don't think alpa is for the skywest guys, those pilots love management and I dont think any of them are unified enough to make a union work. The regional I am flying for is alpa and we have better contracts then most majors. My only guess is because we know how to unify and vote for a contract that we want, not run and hide because management fed us a line of bs
Just my two cents

I am a Captain at Southwest. I have flown with numerous FO's from SkyWest and from every ALPA regional carrier. ALMOST WITHOUT EXCEPTION, the former SkyWest guys have nothing but good things to say about their experience there......
As a consequence to that, the SkyWest guys tend to be much more pleasant to fly with and have a better reputation with both the SWA training department and the hiring committee than their ALPA counterparts

Thanks for the vote of confidence in SkyWest pilots (based on your positive experiences). It's been almost 2 decades since the first time I rode in the jumpseat of a WN B737, but that experience, and EVERY single experience since then, has been the same.... exceptional.
I constantly compare the culture at Southwest with SkyWest. Not surprisingly, they both had / have founders who stayed the course for the long haul (34 years now for Jerry Atkins). That's something few companies of any kind have, let alone an airline.
And neither is ALPA. I'm guessing Southwest pilots aren't considering switching to ALPA ????

So, 700 grievances, each at 6 months. So ALPA is too weak to get these settled.
Great sales pitch.
By the way, if I had a pay issue at SkyWest, I pick up the phone, problem solved. Your ALPA company files a grievance, and let's see, 700 x 6 months each, uh, I'll be dead when my grievance is settled.
I do agree with your last quoted sentence. We largely do like the team that runs this company.

I think you'll find that SAPA does not negotiate under the rwla. Glad you recognize the failings of ALPA.
What are you guys all gunna do when ALPA fails (again) at SkyWest? I heard Mesa is hiring good ALPA folks.

well you guys better at least see to it that SAPA goes away. and if you guys hate ALPA so much why does almost every captain at Skywest whos looking to move on have their application in with an ALPA carrier?
Why are people jumping on and off the bandwagon when things are great and when ish hits the fan?

That's correct, TD. That comment (suggesting the Google Toolbar, with spell check) was precipitated by the balance of that post which reflects poorly on the education level of the author.
Which reminds me, I neglected to comment on this statement:
How would you know how the vote is going? Are you doing something unlawful?
The votes are not made public in any way. Only the NMB will know, and then only when the voting is complete and closed.
What was that you were saying about being dishonest?

I'm willing to trade that quick upgrade for a better QOL. I wish more of my coworkers felt the same way. Get educated and vote. Press 1. It is very, very easy.

I'm sick of trading growth for pay! I'm a SkyWest FO and my only concern is not how fast can I upgrade. A 4th carrier, wow, St. George sure is amazing (sarcasm). Screw them. We don't need a 4th carrier as bad as we need some unity and some protection. Our future as pilots at SkyWest depends on it.

Secondly, do you really think ALPA is going to significantly increase QOL...I'd take my bet on the quick-upgrade and substantial pay increase that comes with the left-seat over ALPA any day of the week - and twice on tuesday.
Thirdly, you'd be well into your time in the left-seat (perhaps years - and heck, maybe even at mainline!), by the time any contract was negotiated...and in that time (however long it may be), all pay and longevity increases are frozen anyway.
Taken as a whole (always look at the big picture), your argument hardly makes sense...
