Poll Request

I don't think I have enough posts to create a poll or maybe I just don't know how. Will someone create a polling post about the Skywest ALPA vote.

Simply...will they vote ALPA in or Not.

You will know tonight when the results of the only poll that counts will be known......

What is the 800 number to call in to hear the results? When are they announced?

t- :40

I'm sure it will be all over the web once it happens.

JetJock16 11-06-2007 10:23 AM

******! I was just told that ALPA failed by over 65%. No official word yet, the vote officially ended at 12 noon MST in the Nov 6th, but that's more than I expected. I was thinking 55 No and 45 Yes.

Disclaimer: I voted YES and sorry Mods for the ******, oops "I did it again."

Slaphappy 11-06-2007 10:24 AM

Thank you to all those who voted no/didn't vote. You saved skywest

Ya, ALPA alone was going to drive SKW down the ******er. No Slap that's your job.

rickair7777 11-06-2007 10:26 AM

Wow. I'm surprised, I thought it would be closer than that.

You and I both, but from what I've heard, it's over. I hope their wrong but my gut tells me it's over.

Slaphappy 11-06-2007 10:30 AM

considering they only managed to get 50% of the cards back in a 1 year period, 35% is about what I thought it would be.

CL65driver 11-06-2007 10:58 AM

Well, to all their own. The SkyWest pilots have spoken. What's the count now?... two airlines this year alone who have turned down ALPA? Very interesting....

otter 11-06-2007 11:08 AM

I voted yes, however, I knew there was no way it would happen. But only 35%!!!! Thats also much lower than I was guessing. I hope we can get some cool new block over ride.

I've always thought that if you're going to insult somebody in writing, you should at least try to spell correctly to bolster your own position. And really, do you think he's advocating getting paid $19 per hour? As someone who's doing it now, I can say there is absolutely no joy in getting paid that kind of money, and I'd be hard pressed to find anybody who disagrees. That said, that's just how it is. Pretty much every airline I can think of pays significantly less the first year, unionized or not. They might just do it because they can, they might do it to offset training costs, they might do because we're on probation, whatever. What I try to keep in mind is that it does get better, and railing against everyone for flying around at $19/hr is a tad bit disingenuous. I knew what I was getting into, tried to plan accordingly, and so far it's working out. I would think most people would do the same.

On a side note, the $19 rate, miserable as it is, is still competitive with the rest of industry, particularly when you take our work rules into account. I'm not defending it, but it's not like the evil scab anti-union pilots of SkyWest are selling everyone out and dragging the whole industry down.

I would say, though, that the ball is in SkyWest's court. I'd say the majority of the pilot group has shown their "loyalty" to them, and if they are who they say they are, I'd expect some good things in the near future.

No $19.25 an hour is not competitive. It's actually well below average, near the bottom, its second year and then on that is more than competitive.

I agree, now that 65+% of the pilot group has voted no and I'm sure 80+% of the yes votes are still Pro-SKW, how is Mgmnt going to reward us. As a start they need to increase first year pay and improve some of our QOL policies and that's just a beginning.

Yeah, per hour maybe not, but at least you credit more than 3 hours a day, among other things.

Sure, I wish there was a smiley that was holding his breath and passing out to choose from. Anyway, maybe if it does happen it will be above current inflation this time.

PS oh... and for prop drivers too...
