Republic training contract

I just read that Republic has a 2 year, $15,000 training contract? Are they charging new hires for training? I can't imagine in today's hiring environment that a company could do that.

Charging....no....you will be made to sign a two you agreement to repay a prorated amount of your training costs if you leave inside 24 months.

The real question is do they enforce it?

Depends, some say yes, some say no. I don't really think any training contract is enforceable if your lawyer is good enough. Basically, you're signing something that says you'll work here for two years so I guess the training contract is really only as good as your word...

I've been wondering about this "training agreement"... I've been handed the dirty end of that stick before. Are there any specifics on the agreement? I know $15k over 24 months, but what happens if you are terminated for some reason, have a family hardship, or something else catastrophic happens? The way my previous employer stuck people was a line in the agreement saying "pilot agrees to pay all attorney fees for any ATTEMPT to recover balance of the training agreement." I've heard of some places where if the pilot leaves, instead of paying back money, they are just put on the do not hire list in case you decide to come back. Is there anyone here who has left RAH and not paid the balance of his or her agreement?

Not to say I'd be looking for another job, but if Delta, Continental, or NetJets calls before 2 years, it would be worth it for me to just pay out the balance.
