Am I going to get grilled during an interview?

Probably but just be totally honest and up front about it and whatever you do DON'T try and say it was this or that. Own up to it, take full responsibility for it and tell 'em it was a total learning experience. Thats what they are looking for in folks who have speeding tix.

When I was a police officer a guy in town earned three speeding tickets from me.

He was hired by Southwest within a six months of the last one.

I think SWA actually requires speeding tickets. They need to know that you aren't afraid of driving fast, especially on taxiways. ;)

waflyboy 11-13-2007 09:16 AM

A speeding ticket shouldn't even be an issue. Disclose it when they ask, and the interviewers will likely move right along to the next thing.

ERJ Driver 11-13-2007 09:19 AM

Stop speeding? I dunno...
:D

Heck if you get a DUI Mesa would probably still LOVE to hire ya!
:D:D
HAHAHAHA!!!

This is correct, as long as you don't have an extensive long-term record of moving violations.

Had 2 speeding tickets and a "failure to yield" (California boy "California-Stopped" a stop sign, sue me:D) when I interviewed at Pinnacle, Horizon, ASA and ExpressJet. If I remember correctly (its been a couple years), they all asked for a copy of my driving record but only ASA actually brought it up in the interview. I was offered jobs at all of them except Horizon. You have nothing to worry about.

Hah! Thats the truth.

KingAirPIC 11-13-2007 09:44 AM

My guess would be that most of the interviewers have had at least one speeding ticket. I like to think of speeding tickets as donations to the local PD or perhaps just a fee to get to where you are going faster.

I always tell my girlfriend when she gets on me about driving fast that there is a difference between "speeding" and driving quickly but safely. I only do the latter:D

andy171773 11-13-2007 10:00 AM

Be honest, dont' get another one, and you'll be fine.

See if you can fight it too. You're almost guaranteed to have the price cut regarldless!

rustypilot 11-13-2007 10:21 AM

If I fight it in court or take a driving class, the ticket will still show on my driving record regardless, right?

not necessarily.

In NY you can go to court to fight it, 9/10 times they just lower it to a parking violation ( or some other kind of non-moving violation) send you to a saturday morning driving school and fine ya $50-100. they do that then the municipality gets the money and not the state. not that i would know any of this from experience:cool:

No! Get a good traffic lawyer, pay $300, and have them get you out of the ticket. Problem solved. It will never show up on anything.

I don't know why more people don't do this. A good lawyer can get you out of almost any moving violation except dwi/dui. I know people who have had multiple 20+ over tickets thrown out with a good lawyer!

Who cares? Having it or not having it on your record doesn't make a bit of difference to any one except your insurance company. Definitely not the regionals in this hiring environment. Save yourself the time and hassle and just forget about it. Now, if you did something dumb like 20 over in a school zone or got slapped with reckless driving or something, thats a different ball of wax.

ChickenFlight 11-13-2007 12:59 PM

Word of caution about the record expunging:

When you go to traffic school in Illinois, it still goes on your record for the 6 months after your origional court date as a part of your "probation" (which means if you get another ticket while on probation, they both go on your record and you're out the 150 bucks in tuition) It is up to the county cleark to then remove it from your record.

The problem is that even though ths system is automated, its by no means flawless. Many times the computer doesnt take it off your record until after you notice it and call the county cleark. That means its probibly a good idea to check your record ($5 at the DMV) about 7mo after you finish traffic school, insuring your state record is in tact.

Personally, if you went to traffic school for one (or two) tickets, tell the interviewers that. Say that you had a ticket, got it off your record, but that it could still be there. They figure that if you are that honest about something rather trivial, you probibly arent trying to hide anything big.

What type of pig gives the same guy 3 tickets?

JOKE!

boilerpilot 11-13-2007 03:43 PM

Don't even worry about it. Nobody will care, seriously. Just don't make it a habit.

Speeding tickets aren't anything to worry about these days. As long as you have a pulse, you are good to go.

Too bad taxiing fast doesn't go hand in hand with flying fast.
Whenever I hear SWA in front of me on final, I know it's time to start slowing.

Roper92 11-13-2007 08:52 PM

ExpressJet does not ask for a driving record, nor do they ask any questions about your driving history.

"ExpressJet does not ask for a driving record, nor do they ask any questions about your driving history."

COMPLETELY NOT TRUE!!!! didnt you fill out that nice stack of forms after your interview right before the **** test? one of those forms asked for your drivers license #, state, social... and you signed at the bottom right below the part about how they could refuse to hire you for pretty much any reason. Every airline checks. Xjt, i am 100% positive does on every single person they offer a job.

Rusty,

Get a lawyer! Most of the time they can turn it into a "loud muffler" non-moving/non-point violation.

You'll pay a fine but no speeding ticket on the record and your insurance won't go up either!

Trust me, it's the only way!!!

N618FT 11-14-2007 05:55 PM

You'll be ok it's an extra 30 second explanation during your interview.

Navajo31 11-14-2007 06:35 PM

As long as it wasn't a ticket for going more than 250 kts below 10,000 or 200 kts underneath Class B, they will check the box and move along.

All airlines are required to check the NDR (National Drivers Register) for DUI/DWI violations. Other violations may or may not show up on that record.

No intention to hijack the thread...but seriously, what's with that? We were doing S-turns on final going into SAN a week ago behind SWA, in a Brasilia. Boggles my mind!
