Schedule

I was just wondering what most people's schedule's look like. Is it mostly a 4 on 3 off kind of thing or do a lot of people have shorter trips? What would be considered a "good" schedule for a regional pilot?

BoilerUP 11-14-2007 06:26 PM

A "good" schedule is entirely dependent on if you live in domicile or commute to work. If you commute you want 4 day trips that start late on Day 1 and finish early on Day 4, while if you live in domicile you may want high credit 3 day trips that start early and finish late or 1/2 day back-to-back trips or CDOs for time at home.

Then again, some that commute bid CDOs because each sequence itself is VERY commutable.

well Heres what I just pulled off in the Initial Line Improvement window here at Expressjet, I have my PC check on the 1st of December then I dont work until the 9th, its a day trip, then I have off until the 14th, I start a 22hr 4day have only two days off, then start a 4-day on the 20th worth 24 hrs. I have off the 24th, 25th, then a day trip on the 26th and done until 2008 :)

My pay is only 70hrs but I don't care at this point, I cant time out anyway and I am going to take some time off and get ready to mentally prepare myself for being the new EWR F/O Rep, thanks for the guys/gals that voted for me by the way;) :)

I have 20 days off, but in reality its becuase we are very fat on F/O's, I am going to enjoy it while it lasts, plus I live in base so when I am on my 6th day off I will be bored out of my mind so Ill pick something up

Does the EWR Local only have one CA & FO rep?

You, an MEC member?!??! Woah.

Seriously though, thanks for stepping up and volunteering your time and congrats for the victory. Serving on two ALPA committees has taken up quite a bit of my time but the progress and improvement that has happened while serving MY pilots has been very satisfying.

Yeah, one F/O rep, one CA, the CA Rep is a good guy, he was the old F/O rep. I am looking forward to getting involved, I figured I complain all the time, maybe I can do something about it ya know. Now I gotta watch what I post

4 on 2 off all month with 12 days off. Pretty crappy line but in the second bid period I've been eligible for I have a line as does nearly everybody that was in my class. A crappy line is better than sitting reserve in my opinion.

So far I've extended my one week of November vacation from 11/9 to 12/15. But who's counting? :D

matlok 11-15-2007 08:23 AM

Schedule? What's that? Gotta love 7 months on reserve...

Try bidding for a buildup line and see if that helps. I know the best schedule I ever got at TSA was my first month on the line that I'd bid for, when I was the number two buildup line.
A buildup line (if I remember correctly) will get the min days off & guarantee for a line holder, but it's a lot easier to build your schedule the way you want it. Plus, with RSV callout credit, you can earn more cha-ching than with a straight line. If you want to work on your reserve days, call in and have yourself placed on the call list. If not, sit around the house and enjoy being the senior guy on RSV.

Pilotpip 11-15-2007 08:37 AM

The guys that bid for build ups aren't flying nearly as much as I am and only have a couple days of reserve thrown in. I'll take what I have, 92 hours pay better than 74.

POPA 11-15-2007 08:47 AM

Wow, things have really changed since I was there.
On a buildup line, I flew 92 hours with a credit of 100+ and a week off in the middle of the month.

Pilotpip 11-15-2007 09:00 AM

FOs aren't flying a ton on reserve. I had to beg for flying last month. Captains are having no problems crediting over 100 hours. We have a ton of reserves on the FO side due to finishing IOE and whatnot. At the top we're loosing them to the left seat at a pretty good clip.

Well my check for tomorrow, is $3,180.00 so I decided I am going to kill myself again for December, my 20 says off or whatever, is now down to 12, but close to 100hrs of pay and only 79 hrs of flying, so I will be looking for day trips to pick up, I like actually being able to put some money in my savings account, not to mention my $34.46 starting Dec1

I have off weekends (except for one sunday) and after the 23rd of DEC I only work the 26th and 27th, so not bad I guess, so sad I give up 20 days off for an extra few hundred bucks..........:o

jedinein 11-15-2007 02:04 PM

A recent month of a friend's:

A four day trip, about 15 hours of flight time. Lots of time between flights picking your nose waiting for the next trip. A day to deadhead there. A day to deadhead back. One day at home, then:

A three day trip, about four hours of flight time each day, 24-hour or more sits on each overnight. 'Course you ain't paid enough to watch PPW or go out on the town.

Having scheduling screw around your schedule something fierce, and don't break min pay anyways. A week or two off while waiting for the phone to ring, spent within 2 hours of the airport and going flying (i.e. suitcase packed).

A two day trip, go somewhere an hour away. Stay the night (30 hour sit). Come back, sit at the airport for 3 hours (EWR 1-2-3 rule), get delayed another two, finally fly home.

Rinse and repeat with an occasional SAN overnight to keep things fun.

Ah, the glamorous life of the bus driver. . .
