Commuting....

so i know that its best to live where you are based out of. but what if i wanted to commute from where i'm living now. is this a bad thing to say in an interview or are airlines pretty accommodating when it comes to that stuff? i guess my real question is, could it deny me a job offer???

Say what ever you want in the interview. They can't stop you from commuting once you get the job. Most places don't give a rip and it probably won't even come up. I know it never did in any of my interviews.

I'd say over 50% of airline pilots commute to work and the airlines have no problem with it at all. All they care about is that you show up at your report time...thats it. Some carriers actually have clauses in their contracts which aid commuters in the event that they can't get to where they need to go in time. Commuting really shouldn't even come up in the interview and they wouldn't black list you if it did so don't worry about it.

When I interviewed at Mesaba, the mention of commuting didn't seem to bother them at all. I would imagine that most airlines would rather have non-commuters though. I think this is mainly because they may be afraid that you will accept a job at another airline down the road in order to end you're commute.

It probably depends on who is doing you're interview. Odds are it won't hurt you, but I wouldn't bring up commuting unless they ask you about it. Like I said, they probably don't care and can't afford to be that picky right now.

nvm
But they shouldn't ask you.

ok thats good news, thanks guys....

They shouldn't even ask, but if they do just tell them that you intend to relocate to your domicile. They have no business even asking, so don't feel obligated to be honest about your personal affairs.

samiboy05 11-22-2007 12:49 PM

Sup BroncoZZZZ!!!! Let them know you would relocate if needed but they dont care ju2st be on2 time

SharkyBN584 11-22-2007 04:39 PM

They won't care because they already know how much commuting sucks so even if you don't plan on moving to base...you will eventually anyways.

Won't win you brownie-points...a Pilot living in base is always more reliable. Just answer honestly if (big if) that question even comes up!
