to those in/starting training in ATL

For those of you who have nice vehicles, or ones that you do not want vandalized/broken into/stolen do not, i repeat, DO NOT bring them with you to the hotel for 3 months while you are in training. Hopefully your hotel will provide a shuttle for what you need. There are 2-3 reports per day on stolen vehicles and damages. Thugs target out of state tags, break in, and steal all they can. I'm guessing this should be common sense since you will probably be right near the airport in the nations 3rd most dangerous city to live in. If you bring your car take every single thing out of it including everything in the glove box. I learned this the hard way when my vehicle was just recently broken into and pretty much cleaned out. I just pulled into the parking lot from training (4:00 am) and parked next to a truck that had a jacked up door handle like mine does now, it's not safe anywhere. If you like your vehicle don't bring it. Hope this saves at least one persons aggrivation and grief.

Or if you have a car that is fully insured and you dont like it and want a new one, take it to training. We had a few problems with this in CVG, but not that many.

Sorry for the damage man. This is why in and around any major city you should invest in an alarm system, or at least put the sticker on the window to say you have one installed, to throw them a curve ball.

Btw Atlanta is not even in the top ten most dangerous cities.

It my be 'dangerous' for your stuff (property crime), but violent crime had actually been on the decline for quite some time until very recently. The rate of violent crime in the country is still very low. The perception of the prevalence of violent crime is quite high, however. The same folks that profit by scaring people with aviation misinformation do the same with crime.

I was told by the officer that did my report that ATL was the 3rd most dangerous, I was misinformed I suppose.

airports are usually in the hood.. has nothing to do with culture or groups of people. look at memphis. there is nearly 1 murder a day around the airport, and nearly 100 robberies/muggings on the books every week. all within 5 miles of the airport. housing near airports have been traditionally on the low income side. crime usually will show its ugly face in poor neighboorhoods. that just the facts.

infact this news report was in a community just 2 miles east of the mobile airport.
