I just had an Airways captain (30+ years, A330) in the jumpseat the other day and he was sharing some of his views about the past, present, and future of aviation. Despite my prior misconceptions of older pilots (mainly Airways pilots), the discussion was very informative and he did not come across as just some disgruntled, crusty, ol' captain.

Anyway, he was talking about how in his day pilots would take a stand. They loved their profession, but still realized it was just that.. a career, not a hobby. The big moral of his discussion was TAKE A STAND. Don't continue to screw yourself, your "elders", and future generations of pilots by sacrificing short term gains at the expense of long term losses. Don't be afraid to stirke... and for those who cross the picket line; (direct quote) "take they out back and beat them with a lead pipe".

So Mr. Almighty Colgan Driver.. TAKE A STAND and stop screwing everyone for you personal short term gain. Ya you got your 4 stripes, but at what cost? What's the next step for you? SkyBus seems to meet your career goals.. plus you'll get to dress up like a super cool park ranger.. WITH 4 STRIPES.. jackass

So according to you and N2rotation, I should have spent the next 7+ years at eagle wating for an upgrade, spend the last two years as an FO with no pay raise, all just so I can uphold the profession?

Sign the check that pays my salary and then we'll talk..... until then ****...

Have you considered GoJets? Seems like you'd fit into their culture nicely

How would it sound if a Republic pilot came out and started running his/her mouth ....
Saying how he wished they would get more 170's and more importantly 190's because that will mean a quicker upgrade and time in larger equipment.. Hoping that CAL bends on scope.. Hoping that JB has us fly their 190's.. Hoping that we buy F9 and operate Airbus'. All while saying that we don't need to be paid more because that would make us not competitive.. We don't need a union because we would not be competitive... We don't need to worry about our fellow pilots because then I will have to wait 2 whole years to upgrade.. BUT HEY, I GOTS ME 4 STRIPES NOW. YEE HAW.

YES, THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I AM SAYING
.. or at least go somewhere that isn't dragging down the bar.

So I guess I should have considered going to another carrier to be a FO again so I can be on reserve, make poverty wages, and be elligible for food stamps?

Wait I get it, I should sacrifice the food on my table and the roof over my head, just so I can uphold the profession.

...and your colgan FOs arent elligible (nice speling) for food stamps? My point exactly.

...and thanks for admitting that by supporting Colganblow you aren't upholding the profession, because you're not.

If you will notice, your tainted views on this thread are not supported by anyone else on here besides your fellow Colganoscopy bros.

Ok, back to my trip trading. Another nice feature of our CONTRACT.

Man, there sure is alot of resentment towards Colgan. Alot of this seems to come from what people are telling you. Please, unless you are like my friend SAABaroowski who has exprerienced flying at Colgan, please stop making things seem worse than they are. And for EVERYONES info, I believe we are going to become unionized within a year. What will your beef be with us then??? We had a heart breaking loss last summer with ALPA, I myself will do MORE this time to spread the word and support the next union drive.

I think when a union, Preferably ALPA, gets on property there, its gonna be a good thing for the pilot group over there. I think next time around most of the pilot there will vote. I think when the EWR ops gets into place it will be an eye opener as to why a union, and good work rules means a lot, especially when it comes to ground stops, reduced rests, commuting, and all of the other bs that comes with flying in and out of EWR.

Jamers, Awesome signature by the way, I believe it ;)

The reserve time for United FAs is 5 years plus at every domicile, so its not going matter which base she's at. Currently she's at SFO and that is more senior than DCA is. As for the three airports they are doing a preferential bidding that allows you to specify which airport you prefer and it has been working out fairly well so far. You might have to go to the other airports maybe once every other month.

And I didn't ask for relationship advice, thanks.

Good to hear that you'll be pitching in for the next drive.

Colgan used to be a small family turboprop eas company. Now it's a 74 seat airline flying in/out of EWR regional.

Sure I haven't worked for Colgan, but the payrates alone that are published are enough to frustrate anyone that is having lines in their base taken away and given to pilots who want to work for less. (XJT EWR)

I'd rather wait for 4 "strips" :p at a quality company and enjoy good mx and a good schedule.

Keep waiting....

Just because your P/O'ed about the situation dosent mean you can go running your mouth on a public forum and not expect to get smacked around a little.

I have no complaints over here, weekends off, xmas eve, xmas, new years eve, new years off, and a 80hr line. Havent had any problems with mx either, I write it up, and they fix it, if not I dont take it. (Perks of being a CA.)
And to educate your ignorant self, b/c you seem to be the colgan expert, we do have some CA's who dont agree with the pay scale and will not fly the Q400 until the pay goes up.

Get used to that right seat beacuse your gonna be there for awile....

Not the worst thing in the world, especially when we make comparable wages to SAAB CA's, but the Turbine PIC is nice.

Check your PM's
