Upgrade a Trooper, will ya?

Need to ask anybody who flies into NY with a first-class cabin a favor...

Rented a car the other day on my overnight and drove up to see a friend up in the Mountains...so I'm driving back to the airport in the a.m. and speeding down a rural road (which is never frequented by the troopers). I'm even half-way over the yellow line when along comes a cruiser the other way. I knew I was toast, so as I watched him turn around in the rear-view, I just pulled over onto the shoulder. 15 seconds later he speeds past me LoL. Now I'm like "wow, I must have faked him out!" so apparently he noticed me parked there after the fact and turned back around, passing me the other way more slowly, just to turn around one more time to ticket me - but he disappeared behind a curve in the road while doing a u-turn and didn't reappear...so I just headed off. Figure he was looking forward to a chase and when it became clear he wouldn't get one he bugged out??

Soooo, fast-forward to one hour later on the interstate and I'm almost to the airport now. Cruising in the left lane, I saw a spot up ahead and thought "gee, that would be a fantastic place for a speed-trap," but because nobody ahead was hitting their brakes, I wasn't expecting to see the cop pointing a radar-gun at me...LoL. Now I know I was going fast, but didn't know how much so. I knew I was tagged (again) and so pulled off to the side. He comes speeding up to me with the lights on, jumps out of the car and approaches my side. Now I'm in uniform, as I'm 15 minutes from show-time now, and he says "you're lucky I have a soft-spot for Pilots because I always wanted to be one, but 84 in a 55 is way too fast! Slow down and next time you've got a trooper on your plane, first class would be nice. We'll call it even."

I don't normally speed (even have a crystal-clear record), but in a brand-new rented 'Stang with 8 big ones (as opposed to my 4-banger Saturn!), well...it can get even the best of us ;)

So that's my story...long-winded I know...but since I don't often fly into NY on the -70, anybody feel free to repay my debt please LoL

Was it the Shelby model? I think is the GT-500H Hertz Rental.

Being a long island native...you are doing the nomal NY driving. No big deal, yea in he 80s is getting up there, a little excessive, but if they post 70 MPH on the highways, we would be at 130!

I understand man. I deal with a V8 on a daily basis. I can't decide if I'd reduce my stress by getting rid of it but every time a get into it it brings a smile to my face.

No, I don't have a clean record. Nothing that bad, a speeding ticket and 'driving to fast for conditions', which I fought and won. Yes, I pay too much at the pump. No, I'm not going to get a Prius.

What happened to the days when pilots were known for fast cars and fast women?

If I see him, I'll say, "All 50 seats on our CRJs are first class, Trooper! Leather and everything. Enjoy the ride!" haha

Cool that he let you out of the ticket, though. gg

I should start wearing my uniform when driving. Whatever works.

(I have a fast car and a few tickets)

That stumps the pax at the gate all the time. Its my favorite bomb to drop on Frequent Fliers when they demand an upgrade on the CRJ. Apparently with all the flying they do they are still unfamiliar with the equipment seating arrangements.
