What if your natural parents are in another country and you want to designate your inlaws? Save some travel passes for when the natural parents visit?

Here's some Comair knowledge:

Unlimited free travel for employee on DAL, DCI (in DAL painted A/C) and NW.

Parents w/o Travel Companion:
18 domestic travel days, 18 transoceanic days. Transoceanic days can be used as domestic days if needed. Only Int'l taxes have to be paid.

Parents with Travel Companion.
Same as above BUT parents must pay 75$ each way plus taxes.

Travel Companion:
It can be pretty much anyone. Add one once a year, remove anytime, but you can't replace them until one year. They pay "yield fare" about 3.5 cents NM.

No in-laws. Whoever is on your BC or adoption papers.

You can also get ZEDs, ONLY some airlines allow ZEDs for parents/spouse/companion.

Pinnacle also has a "Registered Travel Companion" option for those who are single and not married. A registered travel companion is given 16 one-way passes on NWA, Compass, Mesaba, or Pinnacle flights. Unlike the buddy passes, this person does NOT have to travel with you. They pay per mileage and the rate that has been established for that route. Registered travel companions can be changed once a year.

Also, under the current pilot contract, parents fly on Pinnacle flights for free. Other flights throughout the NWA system parents pay per leg - first class or world business class is a little extra.

There are no baggage fees (no $15/$25 charges).

Travel bennies are usually pretty similar amongst regionals, I probably would not weigh that too heavily unless you know for certain that you and/or your family will get a lot of use out of it.

For me DAL/SKW bennies are huge because of my parents geography and lifestyle. For years they have traveled almost weekly on SKW/DAL and now they do most of it as nonrevs...annual value in the tens of thousands.

Many regional pilots never use it though.

SKW benny package...

DAL:

You/Spouse/Kids:
- Free domestic travel on DAL and their express carriers. ($50 annual fee for whole family). They might charge a mileage fee someday.
-You also EACH get 6 international (trans-oceanic) travel days each year. You pay taxes only. North and South America count as domestic.
- Three priority upgrades each year (better chance of getting on a full flight.
- ZED Travel on other airlines (for a mileage=based fee). Both SKW and DAL have various agreements, but the DAL system is more convenient because you can buy a pass at a DAL ticket counter instead of by mail for SKW.
- Check flights and list yourself online (this is SO nice).

Parents:
- Similar to immediate family, but they pay a mileage based fee and taxes...usually works out to about be about 30% of what the public would expect to pay.

UAL (I'm a little rusty on this):
-Mileage based fee for domestic and international travel on UAL and Express. First class fees are significant...if you want to go first class, use DAL.
- Immediate Family and parents.
- Annoying telephone number to check flights and list (supposed to be getting web access someday)

This applies to pilots at all bases except MKE (Midwesy Express). The cookie-bakers get Midwest bennies, but I'm not sure if they DAL/UAL. Anyone?

Got a question about parent travel on US Airways. They are now saying...


"In order, to offset
the high cost of fuel, we have increased guest pass (or,
buddy pass) and parent travel. Employees and their eligible
dependents, including spouses, domestic partners and registered
guests, will continue to enjoy free flight benefits."


Does this mean that parent travel will cost the same as guest passes?
