Pinnacle Trash
And no, I wasn't referring to management...
This is the latest "high" priority memo:
"All aircraft arriving into MSP are now asked to place their trash outside on the landing at the top of the Jetbridge stairs. Be sure the bag is closed properly before placing outside to prevent FOD.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Flt Ops/In Flt mgmt"
They must be out of their minds if they think I'm going to do that and I would hope none of my fellow pilots are planning on doing this. As a courtesy to the next crew, I generally place the cockpit trash bag on the jetbridge or in the galley for the cleaning crew to collect. It'll be a cold day in hell before I'm going to take out the trash for the company. Show me where it says in the job description or contract "empties trash". Speaking of contract, all we want for Christmas is a fair contract...

I am not trying to be rude, but you must be very young if you are griping about taking out the trash. Of course you dont get paid to do that, but whats the problem with helping out and doing something that needs to be doen. In the military we all worked as a team. Wheather something was "our" job or not was not an issue. e just wanted to get the mission complete. i am an officer. its definantly not my job to do anything to get dirty, but I clean, help lift and get dirty daily.

It's not just that it isn't our 'job' to be taking the trash out of the airplane, it's how lousy management treats us. If they want us to do anything above and beyond what our job description requires they need to treat us like people and get us a fair deal now. This pilot group has show solidarity through our recent strike vote, I doubt you will see any of our pilots taking out the trash in MSP.

I do understand your point and if Pinnacle treated their employees with compassion, fairness and respect I would bend over backwards to help out for the collective good. Unfortunately that is not the case. The company pays the FOs poverty wages, constantly violates the terms of our contract and uses intimidation and threats on a daily basis. In case you are not aware, we are in contract negotiations and have voted overwhelmingly (over 99%) to authorize our union to call a strike when we are released by the NMB.
I have no problem helping out or "getting dirty" as you put it for an organization that takes care of it's people. However I will not lift a finger to do anything beyond what is required by our contract until we get a new and fair contract and are treated with the respect that you would expect from any decent human being or organization.
Hope this put's things into perspective.

say you slip on the ice and injure yourself while taking out the trash. you break an arm or something and are unable to fly for a while. will pinnacle mgmt, or any other mgmt for that matter, cover you while youre out of work? is taking out the trash in the job description as a pilot? id take the trash to the top of the jetbridge and help out the cleaning crew once my work is done but im not going to walk across an icy ramp when its -20 to take out the trash. c.y.a.
