Colgan question

hey everyone,

just wondering if there is anyone would like to answer some questions I have about colgan regarding equipment, bases, qol, and training. I'm weighing this against republic both as options so I can stay here in PIT if possible.

thank you!

ExperimentalAB 01-14-2008 12:29 PM

RAH dude...no question there.

dingo222 01-14-2008 12:30 PM

I second the notion

sinsilvia666 01-14-2008 12:44 PM

my first choice was rah - just seeing all the options is all.

i have fellow instructor friends at both places for a few years and everyone is happy at both places

flyguyniner11 01-14-2008 12:59 PM

well you'd prob be able to get pit on the q400 the saabs won't go there anymore. Pay is pretty low. If your from pit qol would be pretty good although the q isn't online yet so we'll have to see.

sinsilvia666 01-14-2008 01:41 PM

flyguy - any idea when the q will come online here and what routes it would fly? are all the saabs and 1900's gonna disappear from pit ?

ANG135Drvr 01-14-2008 01:42 PM

The Q is nice, but pay sucks and like said above who knows how its really gonna play out. Give a few months if your really interested in Colgan.

on a side note, nice avatar...i got a buddy who spent a ton to get a print of that thing. He says its Andre the giants face? anyways...strange yet intriguing.

I'd say Republic.. but they have to hire you first. You may be putting there buggy ahead of the horse hear. A lot of variable have to align before you would be based in PIT as an FO for Republic.

I live in PIT and during my interview I stated that I did.. I got the S5 certificate. Only by chance was I offered a Republic class date because someone dropped out of it.

Put your info in both places.. which ever one gives you PIT.. chose that one.. if both do.. choose Republic.

On a side note, where you instruction now.. BVI, BTP, AGC?

sinsilvia666 01-14-2008 02:06 PM

ANG- funny you posted cause thats my plan is get on with a regional while getting my afoqt test done and pilot app in there at the 171st, great unit and its been in our family for awhile (kc135s and 171st). also my gf got me a print of shepard faireys for xmas "artist who started obey" and his book of all his artwork, its called supply and demand, your buddy would love it !

Kiloalpha - I have a few friends working at rep. two of them got the same auto-reply email (i think it was) thanks but no thanks due to requirments. But both got calls about a month or two later and they both think rep. keeps the resumes and estimates the time till you would hit 1000 then calls you, but in the winter months here i dont think im gonna hit 1000tt i have 740/78 as of today.

Also I am instructing at CCBC BVI where I did all my flying training and am teaching the new atc and pro pilot students !

flyguyniner11 01-14-2008 02:17 PM

pit is supposed to open feb 14th, but that might be delayed cause the delivery of the first one was delayed

usmc-sgt 01-14-2008 02:20 PM

You CAN get the Q at PIT if you have the mins to get hired (you probably do) and they are hurting for FOs in a bad way. None of the first class of FOs bid PIT FWIW

First flight is scheduled for the 4th of next month and it may happen. If you check flightaware "THE" Q400 has been doing around 4 legs a day, every day for its proving runs, not sure how it is working out.

sinsilvia666 01-14-2008 03:27 PM

thanks for all the info fellas - it really helped fill in the missing pieces for me !

iflyjets4food 01-15-2008 08:09 AM

Your paycheck will probably be better here at RAH. One thing to consider is that we have hired a lot of people. Today, the upgrade is 13 months. I'd venture to guess that it is going to go a lot longer than that for someone hired today. If your goal is to upgrade and get out, that might be something to consider. That said, RAH is probably the better place to be (I'm biased since I work here). We're still getting new airplanes. People are leaving here for legacy/LCC/national airlines.

Killer51883 01-15-2008 08:42 AM

If you cant make the RAH mins then go to the Q and get a better pay check than what you are getting up at beaver. I would have loved to had a local turbo prop operation to go to untill i got my chance at RAH. Of course, you have to get the RW certificate and not the CHQ or Shuttle. If you do then you can join the rest of us making the drive to CMH at 200 in the morning. Nothing like driving 79 and 70 in the middle of the night, its just you and the trucks!

The industry will benefit if you pick the better of the two companies to work for.

Colgan's 74 seat rate is a disgrace. You'll enjoy the work rules at Republic more... therefore your life will be more enjoyful. Once you've been flying the line for a few months you will be thankful you didn't choose Colgan.

I got a buddy over there in the Pitt. Guard. Bob Sheets, look him up and tell him Ben said hi. anyways if your trying to get into the unit I can give you his # so that way you can give him a call...but since you said your familiar I'm betting you already have your In. I also went to Altus, AFB with another one from the Pitt. Guard. I can't remember her name but she was a former Navigator who was transitioning to be a Co. Guess she got replaced with a Data card like the rest of the Nav's in the AF. Anyways Like the Marine above said... Colgan is pretty in need for Q FO's and I know for a noone in the first class of Q's bid for PIT's. They will need people and you should give them a call. Yes Republics a good deal with the contract and work rules, but QOL comes in as far as the Guard thing and splitting time. I bid Newark so I can keep away from commuting to 2 jobs, looks like its gonna be a good decision and keep the gray hairs from prematurely arriving, plus more time with the Wife. PM me about he Guard if you need anything.

I think Colgan's rates are sad, but tell me how "the industry" will benefit from Republic flying guppy killers that are replacing mainline equipment for the wages you earn?

sinsilvia666 01-15-2008 11:28 PM

visceral - yeah the whole situation is a big catch 22 of negativity...cant win

ang - yeah i got the in just gota get that dumb test outa the way
