I was wondering. I know you can pick your Dom. Which I will pick DFW. Now is it up to them if you get the Tprop or Jet? How many are getting DFW and the Jet?

rthompsonjr 01-20-2008 10:48 AM

I was told by an instructor that was going to DFW that they are doing away with the props.

nicholasblonde 01-20-2008 10:49 AM

If you want the jet, go to ORD or another base with no tprops. Otherwise, you could (gasp) be forced to fly the trop. It really shouldn't matter whether you're flying the tprop or jet, because you won't upgrade for 6-7 years, so it's not like you're going anywhere else for a while. Unless you lateral transfer.

CH407 01-20-2008 11:49 AM

If you go to another base how long is it until you can bid another base? The only reason I want the jet is because I fly the tprop in reserves. Then I would get the best of both worlds.

who is the instructor, or is this another hear say from a friend that heard from another instructor? Don't believe anything until it happens! It'll drive you nuts!

By this I'm hoping you mean an Eagle instructor. Because I can't imagine a new hire CFI just starting would be a credit source of info on the background machinations of management at the company.

As for time before one can transfer, there is no base lock. You can transfer bases as often and as soon as your seniority can hold it.

Killer51883 01-21-2008 10:53 AM

you may as well just go to dallas and take whatever they give you if you want to be in dallas. there is no difference for the first year. the second year theres a $5000 pay difference so then you should switch to the jet. I would assume that you could get a line alot sooner on the saab in dallas than the jet there. The extra expierince can only help.

The jet will leave you with many months of reserve. So now you're doing double reserve duty...HA! Seriously, you will hold a line much faster in the Saab than a jet in DFW, which translates into better quality of life and more first year $$! Not to mention you will get to pick which jet (CRJ or ERJ) you wanna transition into.

However, if you've got 'must have jet syndrome', pick ORD as a base and put in a base X-fer to DFW during training. New hires do it all the time.

maveric311 01-22-2008 01:58 AM

Few Jets availible in DFW. There were two CRJ slots out of 27 new hires (Jan 21st class) And it is given out by seniority, which is age within your class. Unless your 30+ forget about DFW and a jet, plus as others have said reserve at DFW is 6-9 months where ORD is 1-3 months. Some guys selected DFW and wouldnt change and got stuck with the SAAB. Needles to say they werent to happy. Do your homework before you get to class is th best thing.

Killer51883 01-22-2008 05:38 AM

at least your getting the base you want. a year ago i got sent to san juan with out having any other choice.

jamin35008 01-22-2008 06:51 AM

Sorry its off the topic, but this is the newest Eagle post...

Two questions...
1. Do you think a regional would take into consideration past employment with them. I have 7yrs with MQ as a station agent. Would that help in getting hired?

2. Would refrences from MQ pilots help?

If I put both of these together would they help in getting an interview with 25-30 hrs shy of the 400 their looking for? I will have about 370-375/50

usmc-sgt 01-22-2008 08:20 AM

Meeting the minimums and passing the interview would help

Having an internal rec would help

working for them as a station agent they probably would not care about

Get a friend to reccomend you, they will then probably call you and invite you to interview, tell them your hours and see what they say.

meeko031 01-22-2008 10:31 AM

the lowest new hire's tt is 290!

Lowest eagle new hire time is actually 195....141 Bridge program.

Getting DFW and a jet and being young isn't out of the question. I got the CRJ (age 30) and another guy in my class also got it (age 23). It's all craps. The older guys all picked the ERJ. Why? More lines and in their eyes better QOL. I didn't have a choice. All that was left was 2 CRJ slots.

From what you know, is this the usual pattern of preference?

ok So what will my options be if I pick LA as a base?

That sounds like a great option, is there any penalties/restrictions from moving from the SAAB to a jet?

Eagle is NOT hiring for MIA & LAX base at this time.....I suggest if you want LAX and a jet, you pick BOS or LGA, then put your xfer in to LAX.......

Ref the times....I'm at 303/103 and am in a CRJ Transition course now, was told as soon as I complete the class, I would be eligible for hire (I'm also a former employee).....and Eagle has a deal with ATP if you pass the CRJ course, and then after your hired and pass Eagle training, ATP gives you back $5,000K from your CRJ Course......(I'm guessing AE is paying that to ATP, but if AE gave it to the employee that would be considered a sign on bonus which could then be faught by the union).

Remember ALPA just fought and won the fact that AE was paying pilots 150% for overtime vs the contractual 120% rate of pay......(it was a principle issue, which I totally understand, and will force AE to hire more pilots and address the staffing issues). Now if they could use that much energy to win the fight of the "flow thru" agreement, everyone would be happy and get along!!!!:D

there was a guy in my class a year ago who got in with slightly lower times than the rest of us who was a former station manager. It helped him out and he had several pilot references.

FlywithStyle 01-22-2008 06:49 PM

Now who told you that they were not hiring in LAX- I was just (2 weeks ago) told by an FO that they are looking for people at LAX---who to believe

CH407 01-22-2008 07:52 PM

Once you're in training, how long until you can put in a base transfer? How long after you complete training?

Recruiter stated that at the ORD Open house last week, I highly suggest you try to attend an open house, they will answer all your questions, here is a link to some upcoming ones...... https://americaneaglecareers.ats.hrs...ouncements.cgi http://www.airlineapps.com/home/news/company/0057.asp This would be your best source for information, notice the advertisement says you may pick from "available bases" not "any base we have".

maveric311 01-23-2008 02:22 AM

You can BID for anything you WANT. Doesnt mean your gonna get it for a while.... just depends. a few months maybe a year to get a transfer.

jamin35008 01-23-2008 08:58 AM

Thanks everyone for the info!!!!!
